Was thinking about getting some proraso pre shave cream and some cheapy Witch Hazel for post... any thoughts on either of those would be great - they seem to be commonly used.

Witch hazel is good for post shave.

Pre shave? You're on your own, never used it as relied on the lather and hot shower.
 
Well I didn't use any today and didn't seem to be too much of a problem. Hopefully once I get the hang of the lather more could potentially protect a bit more. I know lots of people say that it gives a better final result if a pre-shave is used, although I'm happy with how it feels.

Yeah I just was trying to be careful not to carve up my face on the first outing, I'll probably try something different after a few goes with the Derby. Any recommendations for where to go next would be appreciated :)
 
I did suggest it. There are loads more blades in the little plastic clip bag. I also put some in there and the brush along with some soap samples and a stypyic stick. I think it will change with every person as folk use stuff and add to it. I thought there was some brilliant stuff in it.

Is it just me, or is passing around a styptic pencil a bit gross? :eek:
A tube of styptic gel maybe, but a pencil??
