New to DE razors

Hi in relation to your lost razor, if you have no tracking code or order number, I would be emailing Edwin Jagger and asking when it was sent (they should have a dispatch date at the very least) and then contacting Royal Mail again. Hopefully that will give a time frame to work within. I hope you either get t or a replacement. If it doesn't arrive further emails to both Jagger and Royal to express your disapointment should be a follow up.

One other thought, I once had a missing book and the company swore they posted it, on rechecking with Royal Mail, they had tried to deliver it and left no card or acknowledgement. Hence it was returned to the sorting office. Good luck.

On the shaving front, i'd listen to the advice already given. I would say take your time, and for me the Astras work well with the razor your using.

Regards and welcome to our wonderful shaving world....Don't let the poor experience you have had put you off.

Mark

Here is the result :
Decent shave, quite a few weepers, and two nicks. I've seen worse but I have seen a lot better. The blade felt rough. I found myself taking long strokes at times. It is difficult to get the right angle. My cheeks are BBS. The problems are on my neck, under my nose, on my chin, and around my lips. I've done three passes and too many touch ups. That is when I've nicked myself.
If this was a mild razor, I don't even want to be near an aggressive one. I will email Edwin Jagger and see if they will help.
I've also received today 6 samples of creams and soaps. They are a little bit of a disappointment smell wise compared to the Windsor. I guess I need to try more.

Glad you found it decent despite the weepers and nicks. Often it's shaving mileage which will give you the feel for it. I second the voices of others that excessive pressure and potentially an incorrect angle played their parts with your shave.

You've noted that you've gone for 3 passes and too many touch-ups. I've personally found it easy to get carried away with too many passes or too many touch-ups. I'm resigned now to the fact that I'm often not 100% smooth and I'm happy with the results as I'm not 'chasing BBS'. Again, as above, try just one or two passes and don't worry too much about touch-ups in this early stage. It's very easy to get carried away and give yourself resulting irritation or nicks/weepers. Cheeks are the easiest to achieve BBS as they're usually the flattest areas and give you plenty of scope to attain the correct angle.

Keep at it! :D

I think I blame the wrong angle of the razor on my neck. I will try again tomorrow with the same blade.
I've emailed Edwin Jagger and hope for the best.
I was thinking about ordering a Maseto brush from ebay, but all this postal service issues give me second thoughts.

On your neck you need to know which way your hairs grow. so try mapping your facial hair to make sure you are not shaving against them at first. You can use your fingers to stroke the hairs or a cotton wool ball and gently rub this on your face. Once you know the hair growth direction you can shave with the grain and reduce any irritation.
Here is a video that may help

I am pretty much where you are right now and have the same problem areas more or less. I also do too many touch ups when I feel I haven't had a great shave and this is often when I nick myself or create burn so I have been cutting that down and am finding that my neck especially is getting better with practice. I get no more burn and less nicks too. I slow it down around my lips to remove the fear of a cut and that is working too. Sometimes walking away with a lesser shave is the better part of valour.....live to shave another day [emoji57]
Maybe when we are trying different blades we also have to accept that some won't be as good as others until we find the ones that work for us and not keep going because one wasn't as good as another.
Oh, You will love the Edwin Jagger when it finally turns up too [emoji106]

Good advise about walking away. Even very experienced shavers cannot achieve BBS results every shave. What you should be aiming for is a DFS (Damn fine shave) that will be good enough for all but the most obsessive shavers. Get a good two pass shave and put the razor away and as your technique improves so will the shaves until you are getting shaves as good as any of us on here. It will happen in time.

Wayne - I think that is excellent advice. One of the most important lessons I learned was not to obsessively chase BBS - I contented myself with a decent shave. Sure - you will feel a wee bit of remaining stubble but it doesn't matter - visually you will be perfectly well shaved and presentable. After a while BBS will start to happen - that was my experience. What everyone has suggested above is spot on - work on your prep, razor angle, no pressure, don't shave anywhere there is no lather. As you are working out what kit really suits you - don't change too many variables at once. Otherwise it's hard to work out what the good and bad bits of the shave resulted from. Keep at it mate. I well remember my first attempt at it - as I stood there watching the water in the sink turn pink thinking 'what on earth possessed me?' It's a skill and needs to be learned. One day - hopefully - shaving will give you as much pleasure as it does me. cheers - I

In this case I guess I was lucky. My nicks were minor. I didn't have to to anything to stop the bleeding. A little bit of pink lather on the razor, but that was it. I will have another go at it tonight. I will change the soap though, because I really want to try Haslinger.
Cheers!

Good choice with the Haslinger. It's thirsty but slick and gives great protection.

Very nice soap! Beautiful lather and smell!
I've concentrated a lot more on angle and pressure. I think I got the angle right, but not the pressure. Two passes and a few touch ups. I wanted to ditch the touch ups, but it looked like a very slopy shave. No nicks this time, but still lots of weepers. Windsor milk stang a bit.
Nowhere near DGS.
Not sure if I should give the Astra SP a third try or swap it for a milder blade. It did not rough as last time.
How do you guys clean the blades after use?

For stainless blades, I usually find that a thorough rinse under a running tap is enough, but some razors are easier to rinse than others. If I want to clean a blade that is gummed up with soap or cleaning a carbon blade I use rubbing alcohol, I steal some of those cotton makeup cleaning pads from the ladies of the house to do this.:)

Lots of weepers sounds like too much pressure. Try a less steep angle. The Astra SP is a good blade which should cut through the stubble easily and smoothly so stay with it. If lather is not rinsing easily it is too dry. Don't try ATG until you are getting comfortable shaves.
I usually pinch and draw the blade through tissue to clean the blade due to hard water issues.

So for the next one I will work on the pressure and watering the soap/lather a little bit more. I'm thinking of doing two WTG passes and one XTG. I have a scar on my chin and I can only do ATG on that area; even with the Mach 3 I nick it WTG. Even so, I get no irritation there.
Not sure yet if I will try the blade a third time. If not, I will use a Gillette 7 o'clock yellow.
