How to use Your NEW Vintage Razor

The art of wet shaving used to be passed from father to son, since the advent of modern shaving methods, this art is being lost. The aim of this leaflet is to help you in acquiring these skills.

Having purchased a vintage safety razor you are a step close to getting that perfect shave. Less ingrown hairs and a smooth cleaner shave are just some of the things you can expect once you have perfected the use of your new razor.

There are 3 steps to the perfect shave these are:
1.Preparation
2.Shaving
3.Post-shave

Preparation
to get a great shave the beard needs to be softened and wet. The best time to shave is directly after showing. If this is not possible, wash the beard a few times in hot water.

Next comes the preparation of the beard. Apply a good layer of lather to the beard. For the best results we suggest making your own lather with shaving soap or cream and a good quality shaving brush. (We often have excellent quality sterilised vintage shaving brushes for sale). The aim of this is to create a slick coat on the beard to allow the razor to glide effortlessly over the skin.

Shaving
Having loaded a new blade into your vintage razor. Rinse in hot water and hold the razor to your face perpendicular to your face, gently lower the angle of the razor until you feel the blade making contact with the beard. Gently applying NO pressure pull the razor down across the beard. The art of wet shaving is to reduce the beard not remove it all at once. When you have shaved the entire beard, re-lather and go repeat the process. You will know when you are finished as the razor will glide noiselessly across the skin.

Post Shave
Following your shave rinse your face with cold water, apply a moisturising balm and or your favourite after shave.
Not only will your face feel smooth but you skin will look and feel great.

Supplies and More Information
Razor blades are available from most chemists and all supermarkets look for blades labeled double edge.

Says all it needs to say, without too much flannel - the only two changes I'd make:

Fewer ingrown hairs (rather than less)

The best time to shave is directly after showering. (says showing)
