MWF conclusion

My puck came from Connaught, is it possible they had a duff batch? I purchased mine in May this year.

I saw you tagged me in the SOTD. I bought my puck of Kent/MWF from John Lewis last year and I live in South London and it took a while to crack it but I can get a good lather with it. I do not soak it hot water or anything or bloom it, I just use it with cold water and a synth, but it does take a little longer to load than other soaps I use.

However, I have read of other people (I think on B&B) who have bought MWF recently and had problems with theirs as well, I think the possibility of there being a bad batch might actually be true as it isn't just the one isolated incident.

IMO, life's too short to spend a lot of time working on a soap which doesn't work. I'd advocate using the bad puck of MWF as a bath soap if it doesn't lather.

I used this soap for the first time recently and couldn't manage a decent lather...well actually I could get plenty of lather but it was airy, bubbly and not very thick so disappeared off my face in about 15 seconds.
Too much water I thought so I've been like a man possessed trying to get the right combination over the past few days.
Best badger brush, boar brush, pure badger, bloom the puck, don't bloom the puck, squeeze excess water from the brush, let it drip out, keep brush wet, use a scuttle, use a bowl, don't use a bowl and try it from the puck to face lather....still, no luck.

So as an honest man I've came to the decision that MWF is a great soap that serves a great purpose. Its been sent to the shower where it belongs to live out the rest of its days :ROFLMAO:

MWF 1-0 Dcshaves

Thanks for this post, I was wondering what I could do with a brand new puck of mine. I have one in a bowl and just cant make it work in comparison to others in my collection.

Brilliant as a shower soap though!!

I think I'll have to cut the other one out and bin it ):.

Don't ditch it, fill the tub with water and it will swell up having absorbed some, it then becomes a piece of pish to lather.

Update: I put some water on it and the lid (blue Wikinson Sword tub) and let it rest for acouple of days. Rather than trying to shave with it, I just wanted to see what kind of lather developed. Bush was wet, shaken and squeezed, seemed to pick up a little more soap, the lather was a bit better than the first time. filled the tub with water and put it back in the cabinet.

Next day: It was much softer, and I got the wild idea to grind/splay a wetter brush into it. Fair amount of foam on the puck. The lather (in the bowl) was much better, felt nice between the finger and thumb, but still not what it should be. Filled the tub again and capped it.

Hypothesis: Perhaps the batches are formulated more of less the same, and possibly the pucks are drier? They are wrapped in paper and stored in a cardboard box, not the best moisture barrier.

Thanks worth a try as I have half of pu I in a bowl that isnt going anywhere. I'd hate to just cut it out and chuck it. I'll give that a go.

Note to self, when (if) I eventually buy any more dont buy hard soaps..

That's a very kind offer. Let me try the puck I ordered first and if I succeed I'd like to try your puck.... if I succeed again, I'm happy to either return it to you or PIF it on your behalf.
My puck has been spoken for now. @pjgh has offered to see what he can do with it.

Where did you get yours from. If it works it could be worth buying from the same seller if it turns out mine is a dud.
