May 2020 Acquisitions

You chaps who import ex USA. UPS tracking says my parcel has left Heathrow for delivery.

At what point can I expect to be asked for the usual import charges?

Any reply appreciated and thank you in advance

Having not been to the barber for over nine weeks, something I normally do every four weeks, I looked like I was wearing a crash helmet fashioned from grey hair. I borrowed a pair of clippers and my partner gave me a pretty decent haircut.
In fact I was so pleased with her effort I got these clippers and she has been designated my personal barber. IMG_20200525_145305.jpg

If it is Royal Mail , they normally hold it at the delivering office and then send a card or email if they have your address asking for payment.

If there is no payment they just deliver it.

Thanks Russ. It is UPS. Do they use Royal Mail once in UK?
No UPS have their own delivery set-up - the brown vans I think.
If there was a charge they will still deliver it and then send you an invoice later on which you should pay online. Not sure what happens if you don't pay - they'll probably keep any parcels for you in future.
My wife received a present from the US (from a mail order company not the present giver) via Fedex - a week later they sent an invoice for import charges (£27 !) - note that shipping charges are included when import duties are calculated.

Thank you very much to all for your replies.

I am expecting import costs which I have figured in, just didn't know how it all works. Didn't want to be in debt to HM Customs and Excise.

Saw this on Flea bay, i was wondering about these things and i thought oh well its cased and i thought the small knife looked like a Richards of Sheffield stainless by the side plates.

Oh Well £2.40 and it turned up today.
What is he going to do with that? you may ask.
Well the razor has been barbicide cleaned, it looks new, checked blade, i did rewind it and it looks brand new.
Cleaned up case, checked knife - its a Richards penknife. Still got an edge on it. It will make a nice little pipe knife.
A little bit leather food and a polish and Viola,

I've ordered the Muhle 4 piece vivo plum wood set for my dad for father's day. No joke, lockdown had me thinking we were in June already...
I added some Geo F Trumper Sandalwood cream, a few 10 packs of razors (went for the muhle razors) an alum block, and a 2 pack of muhle shave towels. The extras are from my son, for my dad actually, as we all moved in together in March when lockdown was announced.

Then decided to get myself a DE razor because shaving with a straight still takes me quite a long time (which I think is one of the things that I actually love about it, oddly). I went for the Ottoman from Barbarossa Brothers. Big fan of their stuff. Threw in some sandalwood shaving cream, and a pack of feather razors.

My first purchase was a Barbarossa Brothers shavette before buying a TI from executive shaving, and I tried it again on Tuesday just to see. The zero prep is good, and it's super sharp, but the shave just isn't the same. It's a little harsh for my skin, which is quite sensitive, and I've grown to enjoy the prep process now. I have a weird area under my chin where the stubble seems to grow in a different direction to the rest of my face, and I still haven't figured out how to get it with a straight. The w59 GD is a nice short blade (albeit with a sharp point) and is the closest I've come so far to getting it all, but not quite, so I thought a DE would be a handy addition to get it quickly at the end of a shave if I never quite get there. That and it will provide a better quick shave than the shavette.

Finally, I bought a 6/8 Crown and Sword on ebay, which is now my 7th straight in a matter of months. I really need to rein it in now

T. - if you take to the razor - I have a N.O.S replacement cartridge thing - see attached - if you want it - I'll happily send it on - cheers - I.

Are these, like landmines not banned under international law or something. :p;) only kidding. Do they not have a reputation of being a bit bitey, or is it that people were not using them properly. If they are not too bad I might have a wee look for one.
