I haven't heard anything about this company, anyone used their products?

Only that there seems to be quite an overlap between Mühle & Edwin Jagger's products - qv. the razors (EJ using Mühle heads), the creams. Not that it's a problem at all...

Other than that - with the GBP going down the lav over the last 12 months (it's not that long since I pulled €150 out of a cash point in Germany for less than £100, now it's nearer £135), the prices at Mühle look less enticing.

Coincidently, I have just received an email today from Muhle Shaving to inform me that my R89 was posted yesterday.

I have heard lots of nice things about the new three piece head and the overall quality finish of the razor. I am looking forward to receiving it soon.

A friend of mine is trying DE shaving for the first time and has store in his town so I wondered if there was anything worth purchasing. The brushes look ok.

I have both the old and new versions of the R41, in the pic below the new one is on the left and the older one is on the right.

The old version does have a design flaw in that the pins in the cap have a seam at the base where they meet the cap, this sometimes allows a blade to slip under the edge of the pin. It is hard to describe but I can take a picture of this if you are interested. It is not a biggie, no worse than checking the blade in a slant is straight but worth noting. The newer version has this "feature" corrected with so seam at the base of the pin.

In use both razors work well but I do find the older version is far more aggressive than the newer version, although the picture doesn’t show it well the older version is actually nicer to look at as a machined piece of metal, and has much more grip.

The balance on the older version is perfect for me as most of the weight is in the head but the handle feels solid and it just feels right in my hand. Don’t get me wrong the newer version is a beautiful razor and it is only if you have both in your hand that the balance difference is evident. The newer version has a hollow light handle and it is not machine knurling, it looks like stamped metal which looks pretty but not so good for grip. I am sure some will prefer the newer version but my preference is the older R41, it is a bit savage but I like that in a razor.

The naming conventions are a little confusing, or at least they used to be, but you may still see some of the older version on sites so just in case you do.

The R41 and R89 used to be two different razors available in open and closed combs (4 razors in total). The new product range is one razor with open and closed combs (2 razors in total) with the R41 being the open comb and R89 the closed comb. Both feature a new head that is also used on the EJ range. It shaves well but is by no means an aggressive razor.

I also got the nickel plated case with the old version together for £30 at Timothy Edwards and it is a beautiful thing to own. They still have them listed.
