looking for an alternative 3-blade "cheaper" to gillette / wilkinson sword ...

Hi,
I've got a gillete fusion with 5 blades, and to be honest, I think five blades is too big, I cant quite get to the bit between the chin and lower lip.

Before that, I've always been a twin blade Sensor guy. But I have noticed that the twin blades do not seem to be top quality.

So I'm in the market for perhaps twin blade, perhaps triple blade, not sure yet. Plus of course, a handle.

I was also looking at the brands out there that make DE blades, eg 7 o'clock, derby, supermax, personna, supermax, Lords, Feather, etc etc. It set me wondering, in in UK, it seems to me it's just two companies (Gillette, WS).

So are there any "alternative" companies to the big two that make quality handle, and top-quality blades? Or shareable blades, etc? I know that Tesco and ASDA apparently make very good 3-blade cartridges, but I was thinking there must be loads of other companies.

And are ther handles that can fit two and three blade cartridges?

Cheers.

The Merkur Mii handle has interchangeable adaptors that let you use different types of cartridges, and as the Tesco three blade cart fits the Sensor you can put the Sensor adaptor on and away you go,likewise the Contour adaptor.
Dorco do a multi blade razor handle.

Dave.

Thanks guys.
Burgundy, thanks, really interesting, but the feather has its own F-System and I'm I'm trying to go for generic-ish, so will give that one a miss. The Trac II on youtube -seems very difficult to mount the blade (Slide in) and the head doesn't seem to swivel ; also seems hard to get in uk. (please correct me if I'm wrong on all counts), so this one as well will skip, but thanks for heads up to these two thing, v interesting.

Trainman, Merk Mii handle looks promising but for some reason when I search for this to look/buy, I cant seem to find anywhere that sells it ( and Im in UK). this amazon link seems to be marked as unavailable ...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Merkur-Blade-Razor-Chrome-Plated-Finish/dp/B003OFG002

Where can I get this in UK?

Regarding Dorco, never heard of this brand - but whats the name of the multi-blade razor handle? And is this easily available in UK? Thanks

If you search Amazon for Dorco it throws up several options. As for the Mii I don't think it is available here in the UK anymore, you will find it online but It's not cheap.
I have two Mii's as it happens,a Red one that I use and a brand new white one still In It's box.

Dave.

Ok thanks very much - this brand new white one in box has all the adaptors?
Is this something you are interested in selling? Or you'd rather hang on to it?

Discount stores such as Savers and Bodycare do low prices on most disposable versions of system razors.
You could also consider the new systems from Bic.

My advice would be to stick with Gillette fusion or Mach 3 and get yourself a razorpit. I swear by mine. Blades last ages, I forget how long.

Cheaper blades always feel dull from new to me.

Am surprised about lack of love for Sensor (Excel). Still think this is the best cartridge in town.
Sensor's are quite rare, only Boots and Waitrose sold them recently before the new version came out. The disposables offer better value, and the heads can be used on a system version...

When you say Fusion are you talking about the regular Fusion or the Fusion ProGlide?

ProGlide heads are MUCH thinner than Fusion heads.

I have a fusion proglide, its a great little razor, and for whatever reason, i dont get a good shave ... perhaps the five blades are packed very tightly or something. And when I speak of thinner, I mean the breadth/height sort of thing. So if you were to put the cartridge down, blades side faced down on a piece of paper and draw a rectangle around it with a pencil, the shorter left/right side of that rectangle - quite tricky inside the divety bit just above my chin (maybe eveyone's chin is different).
