Lee Childs

Love them read most if them. The film that Tom Cruise did was a adaptation of One Shot. Good film! Best bit was the camera trickery that made Cruise appear 6' plus, as Reacher is

Read them all - in order of writing and love them :)

Got a signed hardback for my mum too :)

Sadly I was so disgusted with tiny tom cruise playing a man whose is 6'7 with legs like tree trunks and arms the size of hams that I refused to watch the movie !

I have listened to all the Audio Books and read all the short stories.

Great books, love them.

Can't wait for the next one.

I wasn't too impressed with the film. Someone like Dolph Lungdren would have been ideal (if he could act).

These books got me back into reading after years of not reading books - a friend of my wifes lent me one - I couldn't actually put it down, I have amassed a fair collection of them now!

I love the way he writes - and normally from reachers view, and from the 'bad' guys side.

I thought the film was really good, although as is usual in a film, didnt go into as much depth.... infact the Mrs is out tonight, so may sit and watch it again!

I think the Chris Ryan books are similar edge of your seat stuff if you have not read them.

Any other suggestions of similar writers?

Like Lee Childs, with the exception of a few short stories, his books revolve around the same character.

Over many years I read about half of them but out of order, over the last 18-24 months I have gone back and read the entire series in order. I have been looking for another author to fill the gap now I am up to date, so I will have a look at Chris Ryan.

Jack reacher is awesome, shame they didn't pick one of the better books to put on the screen

The detail in his stories are superb.

And going back in time every now and again to see him in his army days was inspired

Although tom cruise was terrible casting he did a good job, the fight scene was brilliant

I have read all of the Reacher books and although some didn't quite hit the highest spots of others in the series, on the whole, I found them extremely entertaining and immensely difficult to put down. I got into them after watching the film at my wife's suggestion, the dear lady having been recommended it by a female colleague which was probably due to, at least in part, to the presence of Tom Cruise. Although I enjoyed the film, the books brought far more to the table although I thought Mr Cruise did a fairly creditable job what with him lacking the physical attributes of the main character. And what a charter too.

Since you have allowed us to call you Greg, might I point out that Reacher is consistently referred to being 6' 5" in height (his brother Joe an inch taller though much less fearsome) and mostly around the 250 pounds mark in weight. However, he may count himself lucky that he and his former pair of size 12 Cheaney Tenterden's have not met our Vinny in a bad mood. The moustache alone would have our seemingly invincible giant, gibbering with fear.

Can those who have read a goodly number if not all of them, name their favourite? I'm not sure I can but The Hard Way is definitely up there and The Killing Floor too. My least favourite thus far would have to be the one concerning the towns of Hope and Despair - I forget the title this early of a morning. The one with the tiny drug Baron, snow bound state, mysterious abandoned military building and futile guarding of an elderly witness was also very fine indeed. Names and titles. Tames and nitles. One and almost all, they evade me this day.

Anyhoo, bloody good books and highly recommended.

Him in the south eastern north.

P.S. as to Dolph Lundgren: he does share similar physical attributes as our imperfect hero but considering he reached his acting peak as a near mute in Rocky IV, and that being hardly notable fare, I fear his choice would be quite the cinematographic disaster.

My top ten

1. killing floor
2. the visitor
3. tripwire
4. the enemy
5. one shot
6. gone tomorrow
7. the affair
8. a wanted man
9. bad luck and trouble
10. without fail

the rest become samey but still good. Echo Burning I hated

Waiting to get “never go back”

i always thought a russell crowe or hugh jackman would have made a great reacher

or they could have cast an unknown, there are enough books to make a good little film series akin to bond or bourne. the character is that good

Have read only the first 10 or so, of which i only was disappointed by 'The Persuader'. Although i am not a native speaker, i find the writing style partially a bit 'simplified', which helps in understanding but the certain elegance I find for example in a William Boyd novel is lacking.

Fun to read, nevertheless!

Cheers, Olaf
