Lamy Safari

If I shake the pen nib will slid off. That's the issue
Sounds like something's gone wrong. Maybe a faulty one or maybe the nib hasn't been fixed on correctly. I haven't got my Lamy to hand but from memory the sides of the nib kind of curl over and fit the shape of the feed so normally it's quite a tight fit. Does your nib look like the photo below?

I changed the nib on mine and the nib fits the holder quite snugly. Before you go squeezing yours, Jack, can you check it is pushed all the way home? Yes, inky fingers.

I have three Safaris (well, a Vista and two Al-Stars) and no problems with leaks in any of them. It's worth noting that you will only be able to use Lamy cartridges so you're limited to their range of ink unless you use a syringe to re-fill.

I use a converter as I prefer bottled ink, but there's nothing to say you can't go both ways and use bottled ink at home and take cartridges while you're travelling.

I think Im going for catridges and if I enjoy using the pen, I'll try ink.
With the converter, if removed with ink, will it dry up or is it sealed? I have a feeling this may be a daft question.

The converter isn't sealed. The best way to remove it would be to screw the plunger down to expel the ink (I usually do it back into the bottle) and then remove the converter.
Ah okay, if thats possible then thats the way to go then.
Cartridges to chuck into the bag, bottled in for home use.

Note that the Z24 converter that has so far been the converter to use for Lamy Safari pens is changing.
A new model - the Z28 will replace it.
http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/307919-z24-converter-now-called-z28/

Three design changes;
- the plastic tube of the Z28 is more transparent,
- the black ring of the Z24 has changed to one in chrome finish, and
- the red turning knob has square angles to it for better grip.

I have not used a fountain pen in years and I am hoping this will improve my style as Currently it looks horrendous.
Perusing these types of threads I was wondering quite what the point is of owning a fine writing instrument if you scribe like a dyslexic dog. It'll make the mechanics of writing easier but it won't improve your style much if any, that comes with a deliberate decision to practice and there's plenty of help available for that. That'll be worth the investment.

Oh exactly, thats the plan, to practice. Im possibky going to damage the first pen as I press it onto the paper with a lot of strenght, so I wouldnt be shocked if I damaged the tip.
To improve, even slightly would be lovely.

Has a lot in common with traditional shaving then! Who knew what buying your first razor would lead to?

Not this time, I had a teacher that was a stickler for perfect letter forms at the age of eight...entering handwriting competitons and all that.

Only if you lack motor control, you probably need to change your grip.
