Karves New Open Comb

Please tell us more, and if possible a review and how it shaves!

So I will tell you what I know they fit the existing Christopher Bradley Razor same range of plate types AA-F with the same blade gaps . I hope to lay my hands on one soon as soon as I do and have had a chance to use it I will let you know the details.

I'm lusting for this razor.

Which plate on OC would be similar Fatip Piccolo if anyone had experience with both?

So far I've shaved with;

RR Baby Smooth (too mild for my taste and not as as efficient as Fatip)

Supply V2 (Plate 1, too mild and also struggled to find the right angle barely felt the blade),

Fatip Piccolo - This is my favorite out of the bunch and absolutely love it shaves.

Has a blade alignment issue but I can align it so... I want something higher quality with similar experience to Fatip Piccolo.

Some reviews are just coming in on Badger and Blade. Looks like your alternatives would be C, D, E or F. I'm tempted by E and F because I like shaving with my R41 and my GEMs, so used to "efficient". I'm in the UK, and this is making me hesitate since there would undoubtedly be import duty and customs charges on top of the sale price. Just the head and two baseplates comes to $106 Canadian, i.e. £60 with postage. I'd pay that without any problem but that wouldn't be the end of it.... Vat would take it up to £72 and who knows what charges. The Rocca, for instance, would work out around the same or cheaper.

Rocca seems a good option, I really want a open comb tho. I shave every 2-3 days and have middle easter coarse beard.

I found open combs is much more comfortable for me than a safety bar.

Got mine later on today before the delivery office closes and had a shave with OC-C plate/Astra SP, had 2-3 days growth on, my beard grows slow tho.

First impressions are pretty good, there is a certain blade feel, not overly but its there as I can hear my beard being cut, slightly less blade feel than Fatip that Im used to. Definitely smoother vs fatip, 2 passes and it was DFS. Which is what I used to do with Fatip but 2 passes with Karve gave me closer shave than Fatip would.

I wouldnt call OC-C mild in my book. For example mild for me was Razorock Babysmooth, it was so mild that I only used 2 times, I needed 3 maybe 4 passes with RR BS where I can be done with 2 passes with Fatip and Karve OC-C.

No irritation, very small cut near my adams apple but I was being reckless as it felt so smooth and went fast a bit.

Blade aligning is perfect and its so rigid. That aint moving anywhere, Im gonna try the blades that I didnt like using with Fatip such as GSB, Feather, GIllette 7oclock sharp edge etc. Those blades felt very harsh to me on Fatip. Ill see how they feel in Karve.

I`m happy that I went with OC-C plate probably could have done with OC-D plate too but not anything above that.

The Nacet is a good option too , my Karve seems to like them.

Tried it with Nacet last night thanks to @RussellR5555 he sent me some Nacets and Vokshods to try.

Nacet felt very harsh, did left side of my face with Nacets, small cuts in 3 place + some redness. Went back to Astra SP and back to heavenly smoothness.

I might actually have allergy to non Platinum blades or something. Everything but Astra SP doesnt agree with me. Treet Platinum wasn`t too bad, bit of pulling but no harshness just a slight pulling.

Gonna try the Vokshods next.

Thanks again @RussellR5555

Now that is a thing of great beauty !View attachment 41530View attachment 41531
Hi RussellR5555

I own a Karve Razor myself (I need to order some pesky AA and B SB plates someday... UK Import Duty aarrgh...). Its a solid razor which minimizes DE blade flex (that pleases me a bunch), I just cannot get on with brass! I'm not a fan of patinas or water stains. I was just wondering how you keep yours so pristine? Or is it a brand new razor for you?

BTW, nice photo!

Cheers.

They were promotional shots from Karve , but what does bring the matt finish back to pristine is if you make a paste of 1 part salt , 1 part vinegar , I part flour coat the razor in it and leave for a few mins then rinse off. Sounds mad but it works.
