Kamisori for new straight razor user

Hi all,

I've been using a DE razor for a number of years now. I have a feather artist straight and have for some time fancied adding a kamisori to my collection.

Admittedly it's taken a while to get the confidence to use the straight. However, when I feel I have the growth I treat myself ( I have to shave most days when going to work).

Has anyone got any tips or suggestions?

Also does anyone know of anywhere good in the UK to buy one. My artist was a bargain (new boxed, £50.00) a couple of years ago.

I'm glad you decided to try one. Have you started shaving with your feather?
That's one cheap feather you got, which model do you have?
I suggest sticking to a shavette at first to save you money from buying honing/stroping stuffs and to save time in maintenance.
But if you have time and budget and you feel like doing this for a long time then getting a real straight razor is better.
Try using pro-guard injector blades, it's thicker than the other blades and can be used a little longer..

Thanks very helpful, the razor is an Artist. I've had a few shaves with it. My hair growth is regular but not too heavy. So I only shave with it now and again. I have just taken possession of a kamisori and some more blades one pack of red feather (said they were milder!) And some derby premiums. I realise I need to take a lot of time to get used to it.

Taking time with the pre and post shave is a little luxury I allow myself (with a decent shaving cream and a bit of music).

What do you tend to use?

Hey, I normally use SR's and from time to time I use shavettes, I have a parker and feather ss..
I don't really get a clean face shave - I just trim my beard then shave my neck..
If I do clean shaving, I'd look like a 15 year-old.

Thanks for your response. I'm definitely not trying to look younger just want the best shave. I wonder from what your saying whether having a thicker beard or growth is more useful for a kamisori? Either way nice bit of kit
