June 2020 acquisitions

Ive heard great things regarding AP Shave brushes, enjoy! :) P.
I can attest to that: I've a SynBad, which is the best synthetic I've tried so far, and a Gelousy, a gorgeously large (at least for me) badger brush with luxurious gel tips. His prices are hard to beat. I must admit though that I am tempted to buy a Simpson Trafalgar 1 to see if it can match the SynBad.

100 pack of Derby saloon blades ...

I'll give the blades a whirl in the ROCNEL on Friday & Saturday. I know there's mixed reviews - the ROCNEL can be fierce, so perhaps a lighter blade might tame it. For like £3 per 100 they're literally use once and move on.
I found the Derby blade great in the Rocnel for two shaves.
I've actually just sent for some Euromax saloon blades for about the same price. I'd heard they they were similar to Supermax Blue Diamond.
I'll let you know.

Hi Mike! Yes, I do ...

I have concentrated that collection on the 1912 (of which I have over 60, all which I can point specific details unique to each) plus what I think is one of every variant of the 1914, a couple of 1924s (one with the cap engrved with thanks from Sears & Roebuck whose catalogue practically launched that line of razors and a brass one). I have 5 or 6 various Streamlines, still missing a Gem Streamline though. Then there's the Damaskeenes (about 10 of them), just two Feathweight/Natural Angle (one olive handle, the other a gold Deluxe) a large handful of lather catchers and pre-Damaskeenes, and of course my mint Sun Ray, my shaver Sun Ray and I got another Sun Ray in a single case. I rather prize them higher than the Streamlines 8)

Oh, and I re-bought the Contours after selling them in with a job lot < they're kinda 1912s, in a way ...

I sold off all the post-1919 style razors to a collector in Germany who therefore got an instant and pretty wide collection of Micromatics, Featherweights, Natural Angle/Flying Wing, Pushbutton & Contour. He wasn't much of a fan of the 1912 and collected the rest, so that worked out really well for us both.

Yeah, one or two other interesting ones ...

I was just looking at the Wilkinson Sword Patent Roller Safety Shaver (1901, was it?) which was licensed to Henckels. I've got a pre-Valet Autostrop 7 O'Clock, a Le Grelot, a L'Essor; the list goes on. More in the loft.

Truth be told, I've always had a good collection of Gillette Tech and New razors. I've always enjoyed them simply as objects, and that I can also shave with them was a bonus. I sold off a lot of the periphery, concentrating on pretty much the Tech but also British New. Good to bolster that collection a little. I'm enjoying double edge again, returning to traditional shaving after a little break of tardiness, beard-growing and Gillette Dyson shaving.

I'll be showing 1912s again in SOTD before long ...

EDIT: I did try to photograph them once - this was by no means the whole collection but a damn good part of it.

The single edge collection circa 2015:

Great minds think alike! Likewise, a pack of EuroMax is coming my way. I love the SuperMax Blue Diamond, both the Titanium (Swedish Steel) and Platinum coat and can't really feel a lot between them. They are comfortable and consistent.

I don't recall trying a Derby (even a full one before) and have to say I'm kinda excited to try it. It's in the razor now and ready for tonight's shave. I'm let to believe it's at its best after one shave (so, face stropped) but not great for more than two shaves. Suits me fine!

Hiya,

Took a while because of shipping time from another country to the USA, but received these NOS items yesterday. I'd done some reading before buying and this Floris formula of both frags seems to have some nice ingredients, so we will see how it performs.

The seller included the Santal bath soap as a gift and this scent's quite nice. Hard to sniff the shaving soaps through the sealed plastic.

Martin
