Javelin Fleece Jacket

Does anyone remember the original Javelin Fleece Jacket. I purchased the last Javelin Fleece made in the UK on 19 March 1999. It the standard fleece in red in XXL and I have not as yet worn it. This fleece in my opinion is/was a style icon. This was when the fleece was actually on the inside of the jacket with a harder cotton texture on the outer shell. At the time (around the 70's) it was, as far as I am aware, the only fleece on the market and was worn in their hundreds by the sailing fraternity. There were, again as I understand it, two colours, dark blue and bright red, although someone on another forum believed there may have also been some made in green

Just looking through some old 1988 photos and found a few of me wearing the dark blue Javlin fleece. Loved it and was Googling to see if you could still buy them when your post came up. It's a shame they went out of production as they were excellent at keeping out the wind.

Blimey Steve, I'd given up on this post. Still got the last one ever produced, still not worn it as yet and I still think it is a marvellous fleece and totally different from the the modern fleeces now produced . Yes, the most common colours were Navy Blue and Bright Red, I believe that some were also made in dark green. Another style icon gone and British made!

I remember the Javelin much loved here in the Lake District and I seem to recall potholers used them. I never owned one but still have a couple of Helly Hansen fleece jackets and a Rohan jacket circa late seventies.

I will need to have a look if my Javelin Fleece is synthetic, I'm not sure that it is that it is and it was produced over 20 years ago. Other than the Javelin, I'm not a great fan of fleeces on the whole.
Be careful how you throw away your fleeces Nisse!

No, you are quite correct Nisse, 100% polyester; but it would be churlish of me to get rid of it, especially as I have not worn as yet!

I have binned two sweatshirts in thin fleece, both warm in a clammy way, but to be honest kept my winter coat with a thick fleece/pile lining for really cold days, not a type of weather we often get down south in Sweden so my reasoning is: I will very seldom wash it so it is a keeper (and I really like the coat)
