I spotted this on kickstarter, the Janus razor.

Paying homage to the Gillette Toggle and constructed from 36 different components (all stainless).
It certainly looks like a complex bit of kit but would you pay the hefty price tag?
Early backers are paying minimum of $500, saving $125 on the expected retail of $625+
Add to that the customs fees you will most probably get hit with and you have yourself a very expensive bit of hardware.

Thanks for posting it.

It looks like the designer has gone to quite some extents to recreate a very complex razor with the best available materials and I'm not surprised at how much it will cost, as to order the components in stainless steel in small numbers must be very expensive.

To date, I think the most I have spent on a razor is around £15 for a Fat Handle Tech and as a Tech fan boy there's little possibility I could stretch to pay such odds for the new Toggle but I hope the designer is able to have a successful Kickstarter as it does look like a very well considered product, albeit one which is above my budget.

The Fatboy cost $1.99 in 1960; $2 in 1960 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $17.27 in 2019, a difference of $15.27 over 59 years (CPI Inflation calculator). The Fatboy was seriously good value in its day. 5 Gillette blades cost $0.99 in 1960 equivalent to $8.63 for 5 DE blades in today's money...same old same old...

Hi Tony'schin. I'm curious... Is that a 3D printed case? If so, cool, if not, I'm a fool.
No mate it is a NOS brand spanking new from an old Chemist shop find, from the same seller i have a NOS Schick J, a 1912 G Bar Flat top, 1912 bathroom set and a 1912 for the 1951 Festival of Britain set, all unused and as they day they were manufactured. He did not really know what he had so i got them for a song. Plus a couple of vintage brushes and a few blades.

Too right!

The Janus Kickstarter was unsuccessful, and the pledges were less than half the goal.

Apart from the considerable cost, the somewhat extended schedule wasn't too attractive, especially for those of us with previous experience of Kickstarter razor projects.

It'll be interesting to see where this goes next.
