It's a shame it isn't a DE...

This video below from Kensurfs sums it up pretty well I think. Starts with pre-shave oil at 0:48 and by 2:36 the shave is done with no need for another pass. To men back in the 70s the idea that you could shave without thinking about angle/pressure and multiple passes and be out the door in under two minutes must have been a revelation. My father learned on a straight and ditched it literally the second that the early carts hit the shelves. He's been using the Gilette Contour with Palmolive cream since the early 70s and is completely baffled that people want to go back to DEs and straights.

A bit longer than quoted as the chap acceleted the lathering phase, I really fancy getting a Gillette Sensor as I stupidly disposed of my mine when the Mk3 arrived. Currently I have a Supermax clone but it's not as positively handle like the good old Sensor, these razors are probably over 30 years now in production more than any Gillette DE as far as I can tell.

My original Sensor handle arrived today - they still make them for the Asian market and I got one on eBay with two carts and free international postage for under a tenner. I could be imagining things but when I shaved with it earlier the blades seemed noticeably sharper than the Sensor carts I've bought locally.

As mentioned elsewhere on this forum, I went back to cartridge razors three years ago after using DEs for several years. I currently use a Mach3 and occasionally a Sensor, both of which give me superb shaves every time; no muss, no fuss, no tears. To jazz up my shaving experience when at home I use a Trumper Mach3 handle in faux ivory and a shavemac Sensor handle in faux ivory; I keep the standard issue handles for travel. I have a TracII handle too, but I haven't used it for awhile as the blades I last procured locally were not great; perhaps I just bought a bum lot. From what I've read here I would really like to try an WS Royale, but I'd be concerned about blade availability on a regular basis. Bottom line, I have no desire to use a DE or SE again although I have a half dozen stored away along with a pile of blades; I should get off my derrière and sell them.

The Royale takes the Gillette CONTOUR blades and although expensive, I think readily available.

The Contours are pretty inexpensive as far as carts go. I think they run something like £9 per ten pack for those of you in the UK? I shave every second day and get a good 7 shaves out of a cart so I'd be looking at around £45 for a years worth of carts. Not all that much in the scheme of things.
