islay malt suggestions

Nothing wrong with that, I normally add a teaspoon of water to Ardbeg. You could also try letting it sit in the glass for ten minutes or so first to allow some of the alcohol fumes to settle down. I found peated whisky to be an acquired taste, Talisker was my gateway. Now it's rare that I reach for something non-peated.

I'd suggest half a teaspoon of water and let it sit with something covering the glass for a few minutes.

Ardmore is worth a look, a peated Highland whisky without being sea weedy / medicinal as people can find some of the traditional Isla whisky to be. They do the Legacy (40% ABV) and the Tradition (46% ABV), both a good but if you can get the Tradition, which is a travel retail exclusive i.e. from any UK airport it's worth it.
Benriach do two peaty numbers; Curiositas and and Birniemoss. The latter comes in at 48% abv.

Bruichladdich (pretty sure I haven't spelled that right) and Caol Ila are my favourites. Just take a leap.
I also prefer Lagavulin to Laphroig (that's pretty much my least favourite).

Sir, great minds think alike!:D:cool:

Bruichladdich and Caol Ila were my Islay entry ones. I too prefer Lagavulin (16..) to... any other!

In times of austerity: Ben Bracken Islay Single Malt from Lidl. £17.49
While not as perfect as Lagavulin, it's quite good for the money... I'm having a little sip right now...

Agreed. For the money it's great stuff in my opinion. I also tried one of their other single malts (not sure of the name, it has a red box) but was disappointed.
