Interesting yet affordable Watches?

Glad some people like the Botta as much as I do - had it a couple odd years now and love it!

I was originally looking at Meistersingers - http://meistersinger.net/Product_Line.html - and had almost settled on a Perigraph in black - but them realised firstly that it was far more money than I'd expected from USA prices and secondly that, for me, it's too thick to go under a shirt cuff - I have absurdly big wrists. The Botta is the thickness of a pound coin, roughly, which is ideal.

Those Junghans watches look beautiful, too.

My English Timex story. Yes, it's true. Came home from work one day, years ago, to find that they had repaved my street with a topping of 'black top'. As I was looking at it, I saw something round and silver in the middle of the road. Thinking it was a coin I went out to pick it up. As it was pressed into the road I went and got a screwdriver to pry it out.
Surprise!! It was a wrist watch all in one piece. After I washed the asphalt off with gasoline, It was a Timex watch, made in England and still running. This was the time when their ad was: "Timex... Takes a licking and keeps on ticking." they were right; i used it for years. Still have it somewhere. Not sure one of the new plastic ones would hold up to that. Hot tar, steam roller, etc...

As mentioned previously Timefactors cater for most peoples tastes with their watches. Have had 3 of Eddie's creations and settled on 1 as a keeper, The PRS-17q. Love auto watches and even hand winders but everybody should have a decent quartz and this thing is built like a tank.

Also have a Mido commando as the auto and a lovely little F.Hinds handwound which is very similar to some of the early 60's and 70's Omega Geneve's.

This site has been mentioned here before. Panerai on a budget, with quite a bit of delivery hassle involved by the look of it. I'm still very struck with the Timefactors Precista range and the PRS-5 in particular.

Interesting that the 1st Precista is very similar to the dial on the Pan. I don't like the full lume face though, I think it looks better black with the lume sandwiched under.

I really like the look of the Skagen watches
http://www.skagen.com/en-US/products/Men/Watch/All/1.fx

But love my vintage watches.

I've got a very nice 1970s Seiko Automatic off eBay a while back, which run like a dream and cost me around 35 quid.
And currently wearing a 1950s Ingersoll Triumph wristwatch, which cost me less than 30 quid off the bay too. (and is perfect too)

Between 30-50 quid you can't get anything decent looking in modern watches, so you might as well go vintage.

p.s. I could do pics if interested.

Yes some pic's would be welcome, you can pick up some nice vintage watches off the bay, I sold a nice vintage Titus 1940s gentlemens wrist watch a few years back, went for peanuts if I remember correctly.

Regards Jamie.

The Seiko Automatic I bought of UK ebay.

The Ingersoll of French eBay:

Just checked my ebay history, I paid 34 euros for the Ingersoll (30 GBP)
And 29 GBP for the Seiko (but came without a strap)
Both prices including shipping.

If I break them I won't lose sleep over it ;)

French Blade - you have good taste :)

Dr Rick. I had that issue too - skinny wrists. I got over it when I purchased my titanium. I wear it every day, and the slight overhang really isn't an issue during wear. You hardly even know its there. Because of the high chrome hands and numbers its easy to read in nearly no light too.

At less than £90 delivered it doesn't matter too much if it gets knocked about when I'm out and about on trains etc. Plus the coating is rock hard and has a great deep lustre that cannot be done justice through pictures. AND if I really wanted, I could get a clock in the same style to match!

i'd take a look at christopher ward... UK designed, but swiss movements from ETA, and swiss build.

They have a web only sales model, with no huge advertising budget, so get away with not charging leading brand money for their models. But i'd say build is on par with the likes of oris, hamilton and ball.

the C60 trident is a particularly good looking sport watch, with a blend of looks between an seamaster and a sub, with a few unique hints thrown in.

I own 3 at this stage. All have been reliable and get many good comments.

However, my next purchase will be a Longines master moonphase:

I don't wear watches.
I used to, infact couldn't cope without wearing one. Then at Uni I just stopped wearing one and have not really had one since, so about 16 years or so.
Yet I do 'get' watches. I would love to have a nice vintage mechanical or two, but most that i like are several thousand pounds. So I don't let it worry me.

But, there are times when I feel like getting a nice simple watch. Currently looking out for a CWC G10. Nice and simple. But I would want an older used one, not some cheap chinese knock off.

I also love those GETAT ones linked above for similar reasons. Nice and clean looking with a military hint.

My work buys employees a watch if they get 25 years service. Only 9 more to go.
