Injector Blades

Hi Billy,

I know. I have quite a few NOS blades. TwinJector and Personna 74 incoming, but no Platinum yet. Most sellers are from the US with ridiculous P&P. Why are currently most European sellers from Bulgaria? Any experience anyone? Got some great NOS blades from Greece a short while ago. Still a far cry from the cost of - say - Voskhod DE blades from Russia. One of the reasons I stared this whole DE/SE malarky was that I considered cartridge blades too expensive. Go figure.

Incoming PM......:icon_razz:

It would appear that the Ted Pella & Personna Injector Blades are both made by the American Safety Razor Company....Ted Pella blades are sold under their own Brand name of course......... The one thing that Ted Pella and the ASR, Co have in common is that they both primarily make their money out of producing blades on an International Scale for Industrial, medical and Scientific Labs ......Their shaving blades are only a small side line these days......:s

The exact same All Plastic Injector Magazine that we are all familiar with is available with Industrial/medical blades without the Injector Key sticking out the side....There's an issue here......Well, for me anyway.....

Medical/lab Blades do not need to be made as sharp as blades that are intended for shaving and they are usually thrown away after one use because of health and hygiene reasons.....With this Business Model the Shaver and a Blade made Specifically for Shaving is hardly considered.... Here's what Personna have to say about there intended audience on their Official Website......

"Personna, the world's leading manufacturer of high-quality specialty blades and tools, is dedicated to creating blades and bladed products that satisfy the needs of professional, medical and industrial customers. From the most basic to the most advanced product, our goal is to deliver quality, performance and innovation".....No Problem, But......

What I thought was interesting here is that there is "NO" reference whatsoever about Razor Blade Products and or satisfying the needs of the Shaver......

Where does that leave the Shaver ?
It would appear that the shaving consumer is being "sold a sharper Version" of the exact same Blade that was primarily designed for cutting up inanimate objects and dead bodies.....I personally find that the Personna ASR, Co Blades to be quite cold, lifeless and quite static......I find that the Chinese Schick Blades to be warmer, alive, more dynamic and forgiving......

I sense that I am using a blade that was intended for shaving the living....:icon_razz:.....I might have a strange sense of humour, but I am alive and well, thank you very much.....:icon_mrgreen:

This is maybe a dumb question but where can you get the Chinese Schick Blades from?

I've read through this thread and can see they're available through Amazon but I can't see where it's mentioned that they're from China, or the US for that matter.
Can someone post a link to clarify?

I'm interested because I'm waiting on my first Schick razor to arrive so am now pondering blades. I believe I'll be able to use NOS blades that come with my razor but in future I was thinking Connaughts would be a good place for blades.

The Blades that are sold from Amazon are Indeed the Chinese Schick Injector Blades.....
They come through some subsidiary company that Amazon is using.......They are ordered from the USA on an order to order basis.......You will get them at your door posted directly from the USA....They can take a couple or more weeks to arrive......I have seen one or two places selling them in the UK, but they are being imported by the same subsidiary company which I cant recall......:icon_razz:.

Hi there,

If you like, I can send out a 7 pack of Chinese blades and one 7 pack of the vintage US made Schick version for $20 shipped from Chicago.

Use the pm feature if interested and no problem if you wanna skip it.

That's a kind offer Martin, thank you. I might take you up on that in the future. I'll wait to see how I go with my blades and razor when they arrive.

Aye, some of the NOS Blades that you will get with your razor are not usable.....Can depend on the age of the Injector....... Some of the Older NOS Blades are blunter than blunt if thats possible....

The blades from Connaught's Shaving Supplies are good value for money and will offer more than a decent shave and are as cheap as chips and they deliver faster than anybody I know......Don't listen to my ramblings that they are for cutting up dead bodies......

Just my sense of humour.......:icon_razz:

Some final thoughts on my Recent Injector Blade escapade's......:s

I thought I would have a wee recap on my recent Injector Blade Experimentations .......These thoughts are mine of course and not intended to represent and or may not reflect what anybody else may find for themselves with these blades .... :dodgy:

CURRENT AVAILABLE PERSONNA BLADES
I started to experiment with Injector blades because for us in the UK the Personnas' are more or less the only blade in town..... Thus, they are probably the most popular injector blades that are being used today here in the UK.

I personally find that the Personna blades to quite YANG in nature and perform well and offer a smooth clean shave in a Schick type G Model and I can only guess that I would have a similar experience with more milder/modern models ......On the other hand, I find them to be quite cold and vicious in some of the more aggressive Pal and Schick E type Injectors......It would appear that the Ted Pella blades that are available in the USA are made by the same company, but sold under a different brand name....:icon_rolleyes:

The Personna blades from Connaught's Shaving Supplies are good value for money and will offer more than a decent shave and are as cheap as chips and they deliver faster than anybody I know.

CHINESE SCHICK INJECTOR BLADES
The Yanks like to call them "Chick" Blades.....I find that the name "Chick" to be very fitting for these blades as they are more YIN in nature that is more akin to the receptive female......I find the Chick blades to be totally different to Personna blades......I find that they really come into their own with more aggressive PAL and Schick E type injectors.....I would go as far as suggesting that they will transform them into Pussy Cats...... that would rather Lick you than Bite you compared to my shaving experience's with a current Personna blade.....I find that these blades are quite ghost like in that I can hardly feel them, but nevertheless they are deceptively sharp...

These blades will undoubtable change the shaving characteristics of your injector no bones it..They are currently available from Amazon..Whether you like that or not is another story...

NOS PERSONNA INJECTOR BLADES
I found the shaving characteristics of the NOS Personna Platinum Chrome Blade to be somewhat different from current production Personna Stainless Blades....I found them to be smoother and more than a bit sharper......There is less audible feedback with these blades than the current ones, but I find them to be superior blades.....These blades can be found on Flea-Bay at a reasonable price and can be sold under USA Drug Store Brand Names......Look for made by "The American Safety Razor Company" on the back of the package.....Shooooosh....:icon_redface:

I am amazed at the shaving quality of all of these NOS Post War production Injector Blades.....Its a wee bit of a hassle tracking them down, and they are more expensive, but anybody that pursues some of these NOS Blades will be rewarded with the Injector Shave of their Lives....:icon_razz:.

NOS 74 PERSONNA TUNGSTEN BLADE
There seems to be a broad consensus that the Vintage 74 Personna are quite evil, unforgiving and not everybody's cup of tea and a Love them or hate them sort of thing....I have only used these blades in a Schick type E and I ended up with the Schick Injector Shave of My Life with an irritation free smooth and deep BBS result that would equal the feeling of any 1912.....:icon_mrgreen:
Here, again, a blade that was manufactured during the height of the Post War Years out performing any currently available Modern Injector Blade by a wide margin....
These demand high prices on Flea-Bay and I can understand why......All depends on how far down the Rabbit Hole you want to fall as Martin (Dodgy) would put it....:icon_lol:

NOS SCHICK KRONA INJECTOR BLADE
I have used these Schick Krona Blades in both the E and G Type....For me they fit both these models very well...Really "hard to be bitten" by these blades even in more aggressive PAL and Schick E type injectors.... The Krona blade is sharper than any current injector blade and "boy are these smooth"......These babies are as "smooth as Silk" and shave like spreading icing on a cake.....I am in love with these blades...........I have found that even my regrowth is as smooth as silk....I can shave with these blades and all I need is a quick touch up 24 hours later......That says it all..... :icon_razz: ....

The Krona blades are starting to become rarer and demanding more coin on Flea-Bay, but they are indeed the Cream of the Crop....
Here, again, a blade that was manufactured during the height of the Post War Years out performing any currently available Modern Injector Blade by a wide margin....:s

SCHICK PLATINUM INJECTOR BLADES
The Schick Platinum's are Dangerously Sharp.....I have never came across a Blade so Sharp .......There is "NO" modern injector blade that can look any where near these blades.....These blades have got to be experienced to realize how Mediocre Modern Injector blades are by comparison....The NOS Dutch Made Schick Platinum Injector Blade are so sharp I had the feeling that I was shaving with a Precision Made Surgical Instrument.....These blades are excellent performers in both G and E type injectors .....They blew me away....:hot:
These blades are commanding really high prices on Flea-Bay at the moment, but I have managed to acquire a decent stockpile from EU sellers...

I started this caper thanks to a Gentleman from the USA with a Dodgy looking Hat and Coat....All I can say is..... thanks to Martin (Dodgy) for offering me the benefit of his wisdom on these matters.....I would also like to say thanks to Paul for making my journey more than a tad more interesting by kindly sending me the "Incoming Christy" in the post.....:icon_razz:

Nice review Billy!
You forgot to mention the Gillette Platinum Plus injector blades. I recently scored some of these bad-boys on flea-bay and they're flippin' amazing. Smooth and sharp and better than any other injector blade I've used.

Hi Erik,

Yeah, Martin mentioned you recently acquired a bundle of the Gillette Platinum Plus injector blades....He said they were amazing blades.....I must get a hold of some of these....:icon_razz:

That was a good read, Billy,

Interesting getting your take on blades, keeping in mind it's used as a kinda guideline rather than gospel for everyone. Still goes to show how different they can be, just like DE blades.

Yep, them Gillettes are a favorite of mine and NTS also, mine being dated 1970. Real sharp, but more forgiving than some others. He HAS to keep buying those, poor guy.

Hi Paul

I just had my first shave with one of those Chinese Schick Blades from Amazon in a Type G.....:icon_rolleyes:.... I presented the blade with a good two days even brisk growth of whiskers......
Well........What can I say ?......For me, they certainly feel a lot different from the Personnas.....Night and day......At first I thought the G Type had a silencer on the end of it as the there was wasn't a lot of audible feed back as I am used to hearing with a Personna Blade.......
The G Type felt more like a very mild razor on silent mode until my fourth pass against the grain..... But here's the paradox...........I found this blade to be deceptively sharp, very smooth, efficient and forgiving .....:icon_razz:

I have heard Martin talking about the difference that different blade combination's have on the shaving quality of a Schick Injector.........Well, he's absolutely on the case...:icon_rolleyes:
The more that I experiment with different blade combinations and Shimming GEM Blades in Older SE's to replicate older stropping blades, I becoming more convinced that a loud audible feed back is not necessarily a good measure of the efficiency of a blade.......

For me anyway , it will take a more than a moment to get used to the Chinese Schick Injector Blades because they just feel so different ..........

For a blade that felt as if it was almost doing nothing it offered me an incredibly smooth all over BBS irritation free shave......:icon_razz:.

CHINESE PROVERB
Something Comes From Nothing
For me Chicks in a Schick type G; is my favourite injector shave combo:rolleyes:

Anyone tried cutting down a Feather blade for an injector?

I did.

I bought a Supply Provision.
First shave was with a Schick Platinum plus. It was a nightmare. Cuts and weepers. Loads of stubble left. Next was with a Personna. Same results.

Tried it with a cut down Feather Pro and got a really good shave. Very close and free of irritation.

It's a great razor, but I can't be bothered to cut the blades down, especially as I have a King Cobra.

Might give it another try, but I don't think injector blades suit me. I think it will end up on BST.
