I'm moving on up!

I shouldn't worry about the laws of physics, it's if I've eaten sprouts or beans that you have to worry about, that would turn my arse into a lightsaber-flame thrower.................the mind boggles with the power of death :icon_razz:

John, you are hereby renamed Arse Vader. You clearly (or should that be murkily) employ the chocolate fudge side of the force and wield your luminous brown sphincter sabre with impunity. You are hereby charged with two counts of indecent sproutage and bean-blasting with intent to fumigate. These offences carry the punishment of colon cleansing by Febreze and bowel scouring by keyhole wire brush and dettol. After sentence has been passed and carried out, you will be entered into the Cadbury's Highway Register: Oxo Towers Edition and tagged by means of battery powered Ambi-Pur, internal trouser seat, lily-of the-valley air freshener. You must also agree to forego the consumption of lentil soup for a minimum period of three years. Your special edition Blazing Saddles Blu-Ray with scratch n' sniff cards will be confiscated indefinitely. Have you anything to say for yourself?

LOL I except the punishment's and I'm guilty on all counts, but I'll plan my escape from prison by using my arse like a cannon the lentil's shall act like shot and kill all within a 250 radius for 800 yards mwuah ha ha ha ha

:icon_mad: Why in gods fucking name have Gaggia put pressurised baskets in    (put your own comments about that)

Replacements for non pressurised baskets ordered!!!!!

Overall I love the machine ( the sun shines out of its arse )

They put pressurised baskets in because it prevents the coarseness of grind having any impact on your shots.

Too many people are happy to use pre-ground coffee, and if you do use pre-ground then pressurised baskets are the only way to slow your shot down on that machine.

BTW if you are using pre-ground.... well the less said the better :)

BTW can you do the Rancillio steam wand replacement on that Gaggia? Made a huge difference on my classic.
(edit youtube.com/watch?v=H5laAiLnxT0) you can but it does seem more complicated than when I did mine. Mine was just unscrew old, screw in new.

I was wondering if it's just because the majority of people buy these machines without thinking or knowing how to use them, so they've just plonked these pressurised jobs in to make it easy for them, and have the choice to try un pressurised at a later date, :icon_rolleyes:

I can imagine they would get a lot of returns if you whacked pre ground coffee in a brand new machine and it came out like a shot and tasted like poop.

Definitely a good excuse to purchase a VST basket

coffeehit.co.uk/brands/vst/vst-15g-ridgeless-filter-basket

Then you just have to worry about the actual pressure your machine comes at from the factory, should be 9bar but it won't be close to that.

The Dualit has a less than great reputation on the coffee forums, you may find that the pressurised basket is more suited to the grind it produces. I have no experience of either your grinder or that machine but when I was thinking of getting a Dualit 75015 it was suggested that I save for a better grinder 2nd hand. I have a £70 DeLonghi espresso machine and although I like coffee I can't see me spending £90+ on a second hand grinder when have a £25 Hario Slim hand grinder which works well. As it stands my coffee is better than Costa so I'm happy!

Thats my old machine :) jelz. My dad was impressed with my one, so he got one (In Black to match his kitchen, my one is in cream) they work very well.

my one is about to get cleaned and put up for sale.

Just googled the Brikka and that is most certainly going on my wishlist! I don't have a grinder and usually use Taylor of Harrogate's pre-ground Espresso coffee when the mood takes me. I make a poor man's Cappuccino using my moka pot and by popping sufficient milk in the microwave then going at the wooden-handled frother like a rabid monkey, finally finishing with a sprinkling of hot chocolate. Hardly the purists way and I'll no doubt be castigated for my use of pre-ground coffee but it's all good with me, especially as I am a tea drinker in the main and my wife can barely even wash the the coffee making utensils never mind drink it. I've even taken that kit away on wild camping/canoe trips and used it for an early morning kick start.

Crossing over into the 'What Are You Reading?' thread, I'm suddenly conscious that the two main characters in each of the book series I've lately been reading or read, are both called Jack, both very tall and powerfully built men with blond hair and share the same need for copious amounts of coffee. They are of course Lee Child's Jack Reacher and Patrick O'Brian's Jack Aubrey. Surely Jim Grant aka Lee Child must have read O'Brian at some point?

Anyway, I digress. Thank you for pointing out the Brikka.

Graeme

It may surprise people but I like using my Brikka pot and they are still very popular in Italy, the afternoon coffee is generally Brikka pot time in Italy for most family's if you are going to get one DON'T get a cheep shity one from asda get a proper One
