I'm about to throw my dad's PC up the garden...

Woohoo for automation! I've done that and it's back! -weep- two weeks of pain over and done with. Thanks everyone for your constructive posts and support. Now to claim my reward, my dad's dad's old straight razor...
 
I don't believe it, my monitor's carked it now. Thankfully I run a dual monitor system, so I've still got something I can use, but hell, I must be super-static or something. Thank goodness for Ebuyer free next day delivery...
 
Good to hear you sorted it. Nothing, and I do mean nothing at all is worse than accidentally becoming the unwittingly designated free tech support agent for the family pc's.
It's a thankless soul destroying task. So much so that when replacing pc's now, I always send them to dell or pc world and suggest they buy a three year support warranty.
I just couldn't handle the incessant "it won't work again" calls! :shock:
