How close should you shave?

I used to go for a perfectly smooth shave everyday but soon realised that my face can't tolerate it. Had thought that the soreness was poor technique but now I shave every other day it's fine. I often start out telling myself that a dfs will do but the shaving demon usually wins and I end up going for the bbs anyway! Obsessed much?

The ONLY razors to give me a truely all-over smooth shave are the Sensor, Mach3 and Fusion . . . there, said it.

Same here (not tried a Fusion properly), but I don't think all-over smooth is needed every day, and I enjoy the charm, satisfaction and even romance of shaving with DE's or Injectors.

I've found that using a brush and soaps/creams is great with pretty much any razor.

The single most important (shave-related) thing I have learned in the last two years.

I am guilty of aiming for a perfect shave every time. I know it isn't ideal for the skin, and even results in the odd nick now and again, but once I start I just can't stop!

To me the biggest downside is having to wait 24 hours to shave again. I reckon if I did a single pass shave in the morning I would have sufficient growth by the evening to have another! Thus I could double the pleasure and enjoy more soaps/creams and have an excuse to buy more too!!

Unfortunately I can't see this happening as I just get a lot of satisfaction when I feel my face (almost) perfectly smooth each time... ;)

Me too. BBS every time. Unfortunately for me, this means I have to shave at most every other day. Every day BBS would be way too hard on my face. For me, there's no need - there wouldn't be anything to shave anyway! Takes 2 full days after BBS for noticeable stubble to appear on my face.

My face needs one or two full shave-free days before I can shave again, no matter how good my prep or technique, or how well the previous shave went!

I guess the good thing is that it heightens the anticipation of the next shave!

I don't knock myself out trying to get my ugly mug smooth every day and in fact have never (as far as I can remember) had a completely smooth face with straight, DE or Feather AC.

My name is Anthony and I have never achieved Billiard Ball Smoothness.

(Thanks Arrowhead for that brilliant phrase)
