Having a 1970's style shower and shave tomorrow - Imperial Leather and Wilkinson Sword

Treating myself tomorrow and cracking open a NOS Imperial Leather shaving bowl. I know these are super rare but I've got two, and i'm only going to use it a couple of times a year at most. Before that will be a shower with a bar of Imperial Leather - the old stuff made in UK, not the new rubbish made in Thailand. I savour that bar, only use it on holiday!

Will shave with a fresh UK Wilkinson Sword, in a diamond patterned Aluminium handled Gillette Tech.

Finished off with a splash of Imperial Leather Aftershave, and Cologne.

Looking forward to it! Anyone else on here do retro shaves with just old products or am I the only nutcase around? :)

I like Imperial Leather and I have few of their shave bowls and shave sticks and aftershaves. They are great, however the scent of the shave soaps are almost non existing(very weak valobra stick type of scent left but very weak),
I did have the original hand soap and as you mentioned the quality of the original soap is better but at least the new ones smell very similar if not same.
I have 3 types of Imp. Leather aftershaves and they all smell different, my favourite is the one in the long neck bottle and the scent is very similar to English Leather aftershave which is another favourite scent.
My opinion; Wickhams Imp. Leather tribute Russian Leather aftershave doesn't smell like Imperial Leather, English Leather is a better option in my opinion.

Hi chaps, had a lovely shower and shave with the above. I scraped off the crusty bit from the shaving soap and it was perfect underneath. The soap had great IL scent and was lovely and creamy with plenty of slick. A lot like the hand soap. The aftershave and cologne finished it off nicely and made me feel great :)

Sezer - I have a couple of shave sticks, and three shave bowls, all are NOS apart from the one I used for the first time above, and all of them have a really decent scent still, so i'm surprised none of yours have much scent left!

I find the smell of the new IL soap similar, but not as strong as the old stock, plus the new stuff seems to melt away rather quickly and it doesn't seem creamy like the old one. I think because it's made from palm oil and not tallow, probably got loads of other crap in it too :(

I've only got the IL Aftershave and Cologne shown above and both smell the same, obviously they are the same design though, i'll keep my eyes peeled for some different designs, would love to try them.

Most of my razors are from the teens, '20's, and '30's, most of my brushes are vintage, some of them pre-"Sterilized". The only vintage soap I have is Williams, with the word "MUG" not highlighted, which makes it at least 30 years old, I think.
All else is new, or at least newish. I enjoy vintage "hardware", but use fresh "consumables".

To be an authentic '70s shower, the water pressure needs to be incredibly low (slightly quicker than dripping) and the temperature needs to fluctuate if someone so much as looks at the taps in the kitchen.

This was a shower in the 70s! [emoji371]

Yes the quality of the old hand soap is way better. You are lucky with the shaving bowl and stick still remains the classic IL scent, the ones I have smells bit like the Valobra stick to my nose but the performance is still great. For some reason I can't upload any pictures on this site but I will try to copy and paste the link of my instagram picture of the Imperial Leather, you can see the long neck bottle I'm talking about, also in same bottle you can get brillantine for hair which has the same wonderful scent as the aftershave.
