I know Billy was never sold on the "honing" by invisible edge - you may find it's not as shave ready as you think...
I guess I need to find out for myself here. I wouldn't know what is good and what is not in the world of straights, but I am sure it is one of those areas I will soon learn. It didn't take long to pick up what is good bad and ugly in the world of DE's and SE's. Although it did take a few days for the initial scars to heal.

I will say that The Invisible Edge have been damn fine to deal with to date.

Don't get me wrong, not knocking the company, they've got a great reputation and sell some very high quality stuff. One of the great pieces of advice for new straight users - ask how it will be honed.

If they give a reasonable answer about a progression of stones, assume it should be mostly shave ready (the only variable being the sellers actual ability to hone a straight razor).

If they say something vague, about machines or grinding wheels, then it has not been honed and will need to be sent out to do it.

Can't stress enough how important it is for a straight newbie to have a truly shave ready razor, even if they ruin it within the first couple of shaves. Need to know what one felt like in order to know when it's back there again

At one time I honed all the razors for the Invisible Edge, but I finished honing razors for Adam well over a year ago, so I couldn't say what they are like now.

Can understand your thoughts fully here. I can only hope it is to a good standard where I can appreciate a good straight. I'm sure it will soon show its face one way or the other.

Thanks your insight

I have finally got back home from work after two weeks and all has turned up in great order. I really must admit that I am so looking forward to my first adventure with a straight and to future shaves even more so. I started here on this site after a bad experience with a straight razor and I aim to go full circle and get it correct this time. I am all videoed out and time to get real.

Thanks to Nisse for his Chinese straight for practising stropping etc
