Gillette Silver Blue

Don't forget SADSACK which is the practice of posting pics of lather.

Happily I've not suffered from that one, probably due to the lazy streak in me, it's mean actually taking a photo, then uploading it, and uploading it to the right place....

Me, I have all on just finding this place from time to time, let alone putting piccies on here :)

Are you talking 7 o'clock SharpEdge Yellow Pack? If so, they are smoother than GSB, just not as sharp. Like most, I find them to be a very comfortable blade. They will usually last longer than GSB too.

I'd put it the other way round. GSB are smooth for the first shave, while Yellows can be rougher. But for me Yellows are the sharper shave, and get smoother after shave one. Same for Nacets which are pretty much the same as Yellows.

I finally cracked open a tuck of these I've been holding onto for some time. Such is the level of love for them here and elsewhere that I was expecting to be underwhelmed, but I'm jumping on the bandwagon! First shave was buttery smooth but merely good whilst the coating wore off (I may try starting my next new blade in a razor more aggressive than my Wilkinson Sword Classic), but the next two have been fantastic.

As others have noted, it's a bit pricey so may not become my go-to blade, but it's definitely one of my favourites.

I also assumed that the GSBs were over-hyped. I really like this blade. I find it a safe 'go to' when trying unknown razors. I've consistently had good shaves with GSBs. There are other blades that get a closer shave for me but none that get such a good result so comfortably. Close to zero Alum feedback. Don't get me wrong, I still do love the occasional stinging finish from the sharper blades (assuming I've avoided leaving my face looking like a smacked ar*e!) but these are just so comfortable. Is it all in my mind? Maybe, but it's justified a mass purchase of them!

From what I've tried, GSBs hit the sweet spot in terms of the fact that the sharpest blades leave my face very irritated for a an hour or two afterwards, and the duller ones don't cut well enough & I so end up going over areas too much thus becoming irritated anyway. I'm very close to bulk buying some. Where did you get yours, as I've never bought in bulk before ?

Hi Dave I bought 20 of them initially in a 'Russian Sharp' 100 sample pack from Gemstone:

They didn't have 100 GSBs available though so I bought those here:

Connaught Shaving have them too and they are a great supplier.

Connaught have the older double wrapped NOS ones.

Something about them which may or may be an issue is that they have 4 glue spots, and sometimes the glue spots can be on the edge of the blade.

Thanks. Didn't know any different to be honest. Every GSB I've had has been double wrapped with awful glue dots on. How do you know which GSB you're getting when you order?!

When you open the tuck. New ones have laser etched logos on the blades & aren't double wrapped. They shave the same however. As regards the wax dots, merely hold the loaded razor under the hottest water your sink will run for a minute and they will melt. No big deal and no need for hysterics.

Agree about the glue spots. I've never understood the disdain of them as with hot water they will melt off the blade. A few people seem to really have a real hatred of them though! However, if one does hate glue spots there are blades out there without them or with 2 glue spots opposed to 4 if that makes a difference.
