Gillette silver blue Vs. Gillette platinum

For those that have tried both how do these blades stack up against each other? I don't use too many different DE blades, in fact i mostly stick to Feather with the occasional GSB as these are the only blades that i consistently get good comfortable shave from.

So for those that need or prefer a super sharp blade how to the platinum's compare to others in that vein?

Thanks.

I've tried both blades and they are both excellent but I think they are quite different to each other.

The GSB is a very sharp blade, and fairly smooth at the time, but I wouldn't say it's the most forgiving blade out there.

The GP isn't as sharp but is very smooth and I'd describe it as being not as sharp as the GSB. Even though the blade can bite, I'd put it as being a little more forgiving to use.

If you already use the GSB and want another Gillette blade that's around as sharp but a little different I'd recommend Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow/Black, Permasharp SS, Nacet etc.

Blades are a very YMMV so my observations might not be in line with the ones of others, but generally it's difficult to go wrong with any of Gillette's modern blades.

Thanks, of those that you mention i didn't get on with the 7 o'clock yellows, and didn't feel that the Nacet's offered anything over the GSB's just a little less smooth.

I think i'll try a tuck of the Platinum's and a tuck of the Permasharps next time i put an order in.

Thanks.

For what it's worth my opinion is that all of these blades can shave you as well as the others. Blade choice makes very little difference. I did not enjoy the feel of GSB but Nacets and Yellows I use regularly. I say use what you want haha

I've used both, back to back and I concur that the GSB's are a notch sharper. The Platinums are sharp and forgiving, a decent blade, if you favour an aggressive razor they might be just the job.

Personally I favour very mild razors, I use settings 1-3 on a vintage adjustable and favour very sharp blades like Lab Blues, Medical Preps and Polsilvers SI. If you decide you like Platinums I have 700 which I'd be happy to move on at a 'below bulk purchase' rate.

Bazz, having re read your post, I would try Lab Blues or Medical Preps from Connaught. Med Preps are as sharp as Feather and very smooth and consistant - also not too expensive in bulk.
