Gillette FlexBall

Anyone know a release date for the UK as I take it they're only available in the US?

I read on a trade site that it was provisionally scheduled for , ' Early in 2015 for the United Kingdom ' . I forget which site it was on, but it was to do with wholesale traders rather than specifically shaving equipment suppliers. I had thought that Gillette may have had a big marketing push in the lead up to Christmas, however seems not.

It had to be done. There are mornings when I just do not have the time for a full DE shave, and in these instances I reach for a good quality brushless cream and a cartridge razor. So I decided to pick one of the manual FlexBalls up in the Superdrug deal - under £6 for the manual version. My brushless creams at the moment are Ortigia Bergamatto and Lucky Tiger. I also picked up a Bulldog Cream in Tescos for £1.75. Add in a pack of 4 Fusion ProGlides for £7.99 from the Bay and I think I'm sorted now for a while. Will probably give it a whirl over the weekend.

Cheers

Jon

Had a shave with this today and quite easily the closest shave i've ever had, period. The wife test proved conclusive on this as well.
Boring vs a DE, but super slick nonetheless.
It definitely produces the required result and will be replacing my mach3's as cartridge razor.

Well I did use the FlexBall and although it delivered a decent shave experience I'm not quite as enthusiastic in its praise as others. it may be after over two years of shaving with DE and SE razors I need to re-learn the technique. That said I have used a Feather FII Neo and I thought that was a better shave.
It ain't bad, but it's no Mongoose...

The economics deserve some scrutiny too. If we look at blade cost I paid £7.99 for 4 Gillette cartridges that will give me, what, two weeks shave each? £8 for two months. I pay £12.50 for 20 Kai Captain blades for my Mongoose and each of those gives me two weeks, so that's £12.50 for, say, nine months, which isn't too bad when all said and done...

That makes so much sense! - to anyone not a member here! We know the real cost of trad shaving.

Interesting comparison there jds.

To be fair, you should do a fully costed comparison, the accountant in me is coming out!

It's one of those things, blades are expensive but the typical user won't spend much more on shaving if I compare it back to my own habits.

Indeed! Deviate away from the unconscious supermarket shaving method: canned foam, off the shelf razor, cartridges and perhaps an aftershave, cheap compared to having ten or more razors, enough blades for the next 30 years and still the requirement for more, 5 plus years of soap across a dozen tubs, not to mention brushes at something like £30 plus each, and one is not enough for more of us :D

I get 30 shaves out of a ProGlide cartridge, which means I get a year's worth of daily shaves out of one of those £30 bulk buy packs from Boots.

That £30 comes from Boots points collected from buying Christmas presents by the way.

Therefore, my shaves are FREE.

And you hobby shavers think you're saving money!?

Pah!

I am under no illusion about saving money. I know I could, I choose not to.
