GEM Micromatic OC

Any idea how the shave compares to a 1912? A DE? Is it intuitive? Which blade did you use?

No idea about the 1912-yet. The GEM is a smoother shave for the same number of passes. Plus my face is smoother for longer, so its obviosly cutting more whisker off.

It is intuitive if you have good technique with a DE. You hold the door of the razor flat to your face. This put the blade at the correct angle.

Ted Pella blades.

Where did you buy the Ted Pella blades ... here?

Single Edge, PTFE-Coated Blades

I got a Gem 1912 as part of a lot of razors and blades from the States ~ 1 year ago (from ebay).
The Gem razor looks very nice but it hadn't occurred to me to shave with it (I had wondered about selling it back on ebay) . How easy is it to get blades for it? What are they like to shave with?

I am not sure where you would get blades in the UK. These guys www.tedpella.com sell them in the US. Single Edge, PTFE-Coated Blades are the ones i have.

As far as shaving goes you really do need to adhere to the no pressure as it could take some bark off. I find it easy to shave with and as the instructions say " shave with the door of the razor flat against your face. It really does do a good job.

Do you have the open comb model like mine?

No. It's not an open comb (I had to get it out of my hiding place in the wardrobe to have a look).
I think Paul at Connaught has some SE blades. I presume these would fit.....

This isn't mine but is a (downloaded) picture of what mine looks like:

Paul_D, take it easy with the pressure, especially on your first whirl with the beast. These things do give an excellent shave if used right. But, respect.....

Good luck man. ;)

I have a GME single edge too (different model from this but still nice) and I get a good shave with the GEM single edge blades from Connaught Shaving. There seem to be quite a few discontinued lines on there but the GEM ones they still too are pretty good.
