First time Straight user

I shave daily using either a straight razor or a shavette enjoying both but a straight razor especially with a thick blade like a 1/4 grind is easier to handle than a shavette with a razor blade so a shavette it is not at all like a straight razor with training wheels. I have found a good shavette to start with is Dovo because tip is protected by plastic blade holder.

My current set up: a Dovo Shavette and a Böker Barberette (shavette is a registered trade mark of Dovo). After failing giving a straight razor a proper edge, got a problem especially with smiling blades, or cutting strop, my normal respons is shavette all the way for a week or two.

I think the general consensus is that shavettes are generally more aggressive less refined, the disposable blades are run off the factory line very very sharp and rough, whereas proper straights are carefully ( hopefully) honed by hand then stropped on things like chromium oxide & linen/leather which results in a smoother more gentle shave ( more forgiving),
But shavettes are great for learning angles and technique and are also great for people who like things easy, no stropping no honing no maintenance so are a great start, every barber in the country uses a shavette for their " straight razor shave" as the strict hygiene rules dictate this.
Give the shavette a go but just use a very light touch, but you really owe yourself the chance to shave with a nice straight down the line and before you know it you will have many!.

strict hygienic rule, well, then I take it for granted that they also disinfect the whole razor before inserting a new blade but then again not sure why disinfecting a normal straight razor after each shave would not work?

I would like to test a shavette sized 7/8 or 8/8 taking Dovo plastic blade holder. (not aimed at pro barbers but certainly with bragging rights for the cool forum shaver)

I will be using a shavette tomorrow for the first time. Any advice, hints/tips.
I have been using a de razor for about 3 years now
It depends on the shavette type.

If it is a DE/ half DE style, then shorter strokes work better in my experience. Watch the corners of the blades.

If it is a Feather AC or similar then it depends on whether it is a lipped type or not. The lipped type work best with a low angle as if you a riding the cap on a DE. You can develop a more natural stroke with the AC style shavettes.

With shavettes you can get away with a one handed shave, but I would strongly suggest you swap hands : backhand to same side, forehand to opposite. The reason for this is that single handed shaving generally requires a keener edge because the angles are more limited. Ambidextrous shaving allows you to work with a more pedestrian edge and this will stand you in good stead for when you use an actual cutthroat.
