Fine Marvel Safety Razor

When mine arrives I'll start the hype…whether I like it or not.;):p

@Redbeard Hi, sorry, forgot to give an update on the Marvel Fine.

The Royal Mail did their deed and delivered on 27/28 September and I had my first shave the following weekend or there abouts.

First impression: quite a classicial old school look; it was almost the razor was designed and mass produced in the 1920's30's - it looks the type of razor that I would have expected a man of my grandfather's generation to have used.

Performance: First shave; loaded with a Gillette Silver Blue - easy to find the angle - smooth and efficient - a three pass shave and I was DFS +/BBS - with no issues. Second shave for some reason did not feel and work out so good - a decent shave but nothing that stood out. I felt a little puzzled and underwhelmed.

I have been spolled recently; I am enyoing the Karve, the Blackland Dart (I appear to have found its sweet spot) and the FaTip Piccolo is amazing. At the moment I have not felt any urge to go back to the Marvel Fine.

If I were to place the Marvel Fine on a scale, after 2 shaves for me it ranks between a 34C and a FatIp Piccolo - in terms of efficiency and being enjoyable to use.

I will give the Marvel a decent run, for a week or so, possibly starting tomorrow.

All the best,

Chris

@Redbeard

Just posted the following on SOTD; I had 2 excellent shaves with the Marvel loaded with a Silver Blue on Saturday and again today, Monday.

I don't know if the Gllette Silver Blue made the difference. My first rotation with the Fine used an Astra SP, which I have always found to be a decent blade, although slghtly less sharper compared to a Slver Blue. I appreciate that YMMV.

The Fine is definetly a keeper on this latest performance - not only was the shave excellent, the razor seemed to be gentler on my skin. I am very pleased with the results.

All the best,

Chris

I must admit to feeling reticent to post my thoughts on the Marvel or anything for that matter but (that's) by the by. As I'm sure you will see from the following effort I've found it hard to summarise the Marvel.

My initial impressions mirror @Ferry-shave initial impressions. My first shave was outstanding and I do mean very, very good. The following shaves were a mixed bag. I did try a few different blades and found the Astra to be the best match.

The first shave was very smooth and initially I thought the razor was very efficient and comfortable. However with the following shaves were uncomfortable with some tenderness and even a rash on one shave. I believe this was me subconsciously using too much pressure and overcompensating for my poor technique plus I wasn't used to the razor.

After 5 or 6 shaves I decided the Marvel wasn't for me. I could have stuck with it but frankly (Mr Shankly) I just wanted to use the other razors I already own. I've since traded it for some soaps as I was about to run out.;):p

Not the best ‘review' but it's the best I can muster.

Cheers
Rob

@Blackmass Hi Rob, hope all is good - I am with you - I think no pressure is key with the Marvel and good preperation. The Cade shaving cream always gives me excellent protection; perhaps that is part of the equasion?

All the best,

Chris

I'm good thank you Chris.

I'm relieved you like it. After my gushing recommendation after only one shave I was worried it wouldn't be for you.:oops: Hence my lack of a response to this thread.

There isn't much blade feel and I think this may have been my downfall. Although I wouldn't say it's aggressive razor I think the lack of blade feel makes it a deceptive shaver for sure. I'm sure I would get used to it but to be honest I couldn't be arsed.:p:)

@Blackmass

Hi Rob, it felt a bit like the Supply Razor - you could see the foam dissapearing not that sure that any stubble was being shaved off :)
