Hiya,

The sandalwood version's been used 8-10 times now, with brushes lacking much backbone to others that are especially good for loading hard soaps because of their knot's resistance. All types have worked anywhere from good for the flopmeister to excellent for all other knots. The soap loads and lathers easier than many other soaps, for whatever the reason.

Performance is right up there. Both the cushion and slip are first rate, and post shave skin thing is also quite good The scent's a sandalwood blend, and the interpretation hits my nose just fine. Definitely not a single note frag, which is fine since this homage is very pleasing and reminds me of other dry woodsy frags.

Price is better than lots of other soaps out there. Even with a 3.5 ounce puck inside a plastic tub it's only $15-16 and less for just the refill. To me it's quite reasonable for what you get and so far seems like it'll last a while.

I'd seen posts regarding how the soap was concocted and the references to a well known Deutsch tallow soap with supposedly great everything, but can't confirm it, having found that well known soap happens to smell like dead things and I couldn't finish one shave with it anywhere near my nose. Just saying, it probably wasn't for me.

The Fine product lived up to my hopes when buying blind......definitely worth a look,

Martin

I bought the Fine Italian Citrus last month but ended up spending it back as the tallow/animal fat smell from it was overpowering and made me feel a bit queasy. I must've had a bad one as everyone else seems to get on with them. Sadly it's put me off buying more.

Currently enjoying a puck of Snakebite... Unscented apart from menthol, definitely no tallow scent. Going to order some Platinum I like it that much, performance is absolutely perfect for me.

I must've gotten unlucky with mine. Gutted as I wanted an AdP scented soap with more punch than XXX

Hi there,

Sounds like bad luck. The sandalwood scent strength is about medium at most, so any weird unwanted strangeness would be obvious and nothing here.

However, I do pick up the back ground clay note of a few other certain well regarded soaps, which does put me off a bit.

Your call of course regarding another buy and thanks for the comment,

Martin

I must be lucky as I have used a puck of their Santal Absolut and their Italian Citrus and love both, albeit the former is best for colder weather. Ironically, I just ordered a new bottle of their superb L'Orange Noir AS as it's the closest to the real Terre d'Hermès EdT amongst the clones IMO. Their Italian Citrus AS is wonderful, however as with most citrus scents it is not long lived. Their Green Vetiver to my nose smells just like that from Guerlain.

Fine stuff. ;)

I've gone a bit Fine mad lately... Enjoying the Snakebite soap & splash and have Platinum soap on the way along with Italian Citrus and Lavender Pour Homme splashes (Platinum is out of stock everywhere in the UK.)

I found the same and am glad it was evidently not my imagination. I was expecting a clean, fresh, orangey/lemon scent, but instead there was the filthy, sour, acrid smell of slim panatellas! The soap itself was good, but I can still smell that stink when I think about it two days after using it. I would try another Fine soap but I'm reluctant in case the smell I dislike is a product of its underlying ingredients, such as the tallow used, rather than the added scent.

I have the Snakebite soap and it's excellent stuff but on using it the first time I had a fire extinguisher ready to supress the supposed fireworks. Alas on application it was more of a friendly lick from a grass snake than an irritated nibble from a Taipan. Theres definitely a niche market for a Vindaloo soap.

Further to my earlier comment, today I tried Simpson's Lavender and Vetiver cream and noticed the same smell of cigar smoke, only not so strong and unpleasant. Could it be the vetiver? Is it also in Italian Citrus?
