Inevitable I suppose. Santa is bringing me a straight via my brother-in law. Don't know much about it, but I believe a bit of money has been spent.
I intend to hone it myself once it has been 'properly' honed by an expert. After a bit of research it would appear that having 2 razors, one to compare against the other, seems to be sensible. So....! I have just won an Atkinson Bros straight, manufactured in Sheffield (case incl.) for the sum of £6.50.
I thought that even if it was crap, I can practise honing and stropping. Brethern, your opinions please[attachment=0]

CD Yup! think that's a gimme. Whole new world using straights. Looking forward to it, kind of shitting it.
Talking of shitting it, HM I bought this thinking of you, in a nice way
Have you read No Mean City? I am the razor King, "Wummin where's ma weapons".
Justin and Colin are near neighbours of mine, Cooeee! I'll send them round as it would appear Boab does not wish to be classified as my official 'hauners'. Will be a 'square go' with you and the boys (when the other one gets his arse kicked out the jungle) but, I think you will get licked in the ring.

No sae hard noo, eh?

Regards

Have a really good look at the Straight Razor Place website for all the information you need about straight shaving. Having said that, there is a lot already on this forum that should help.

Here's a link to check out:

Enjoy, and take your time!

That looks nice from the picture, a round nose and not too wide a blade.

If you want to practice stropping, get a practice strop! A 2" wide leather belt from a charity shop is OK. Practice the motions with blunt razor or table knife to build up muscle memory before risking a sharp blade on a decent strop.

Good luck!

that looks like a 6/8th, if you want to learn to hone i suggest you have it/them honed and the buy a coticule to keep it tip top

I can recommend a uk honing service if you need one

Straight arrived today. The slight crack on the scale is as described, no problem. What is a problem is the damage not described to the edge. There is a slight nibble about 1 inch away from the heel. I may be cynical, but it would appear it has been photographed to hide the damage. The shine from the flash is exactly where the fault is. The vendor has 100% feedback. I have contacted him and await a reply. It wasn't expensive, although I think he has been'economical with the truth'. The item is not in the condition which he described.
