Yeah Leon,I bet that you know that  Its curious that you have a great tradition of shaving creams while here we have a tradition of shaving sticks.Do you have any shaving soap in Portugal worthy to mention?Does Ach. Brito makes any?

Unfortunately there aren't any Portuguese shaving soaps. If they were they would be in my shop  .
Ach. Brito doesn't make any shaving soap, but in the past they did. I managed to get some very rare powder from the very own Ach. Brito, the same company that makes Musgo Real and Lavanda. I don't know how many years does this thing has, but it was nicely closed and compact, so I guess it was still usable. I sprinkled some powder into the tin and with a moist brush I started swirling, soon after, the lather was growing. Not as much cushioning as MR or Lavanda, but still nice, though, after all, it's a very rare shaving soap powder that hasn't been made for many years now.
Translating the card box: "Pó de Sabão para Barbear" = "Soap in Powder for Shaving", "Qualidade fina" = "Fine quality".

Check it out in my setup:

Hi Leon,

Looks like a nice setup to me. I have been wet shaving all my life and DE shaving for several years now. I recently moved to straight shaving, well I am still very much an infant as I have been only straight staving for 6 days. I am not great at it but improving.

Is the shop “The Vintage scent Co,” in your signature your shop? Would you offer any special terms to our members? You have some nice shaving products that I am sure many of us would like to try, if so please feel free to post a link and the offer in the “Buy, Sell, Trade” section of our site.

We are delighted to have you on board.

The Erasmic stick (new formula) is mince. Crumbles up, the base thingy breaks it, and it leaves a gunky residue on my razors. Threw it out. Was only 45p mind you, but deffo mince.

Nuff

Stowmarket Tesco do the Palmolive stick for 45p. Not at all crumbly.

WOW,45P only?thats so cheap!!!!

as i've stated before on many occasions the BEST shave stick i've tried to date is the La Toja but after this talk of NOS i had to check mine and it's tallow-free

it performs as well if not better than it's tallow laden counter-parts so it's a must have.

as for favourite, well that's more difficult as i rotate Palmolive, Speick and Wilkinson regularly as well.

my vote goes to La Toja - just

p.s. you missed Boots from the list which deserves to be there

Rangers - my Erasmic is the old tallow one but i haven't used it yet

So La Toja and Palmolive in the lead. Is that an expectation thing? they were cheap and performed well. I voted for the Moos but it was not easy or cheap to get, I have all three and prefer the Moos.

As silly as it may sound i think Palmolive is probably the best shaving soap out there. I have paid hundreds of pounds trying everything from Trumpers to Tabac etc etc and Palmolive is the best by far. I feel it doesnt get the credit it deserves due to the low price 45p from Asda. It offers tallowy goodness and rich lather the only drawback is that it hasnt got a fancy scent (just a soapy smell).

I think Palmolive gets a good rep from quite a few guys on here, given the price and performance it is a definite high flyer.I used it twice and had neck irritation  but I am going to give it one more go just in case, the price is superb to be honest and I am hoping it was just a couple of aggressive shaves rather than a problem with the stick. Also on the recommendation of Hando check out the boots shave stick,I did and found it performed well, much better container than the Palmolive too.

Coincidentally I have the same problem Boab! Severe neck irritation when using Palmolive. But that hasn't put me off. (I am a man who takes the pleasures of the Palm(olive) seriously) This recent pic of me shows the sacrifice I have made for my favourite soap:
