Favourite Band

So do I.
Really tough question... Although I don't listen to that band that much now, pretty rarely actually, I'd say the Pixies, short lived American indie rock band (active roughly between 1987-92). They got together again, but the magic has gone (and sadly I'm 25 years older too).

The Pixies were one of my favorite bands. I saw them quite a few times, including Reading Festival.
I even met them on a few occasions. I've even had pizza with Kim Deal and stole a kiss too.:p:D I have a photo of it somewhere.
Happy days.:D

Well done sir! All the jealousy :) Kim was scary and beautiful all at the same time - a proper force of nature. I only saw the Pixies a couple of times, but they were memorable gigs (even the second, which was much later, after they'd re-formed).

The other 'bit' of the Beta Band - when they split - went on to be The Aliens. If you are not familiar check them out. The first two albums are superb. Steve Mason has done some great solo work but unfortunately I think they were better together. As I type this there is a poster on the wall next to me for the Beta Band gig at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh on the 24th of August 2004. The day they split up! The gig never happened. Damn. That close. I.

talking of solo stuff from the beta band, i saw lone pigeon a few times and he was very good. he was doing gigs with the fence collective.. king creosote, pip dylan and gummi backo.

Thank you. Kim was one of the most lovely people I've ever met. She even came up to me (yes she approached me) at a Cocteau twins gig and remember my name!

I was at the same gig. It started snowing when we left the gig and I stopped at a friend of a friend's place....with no heating. One of the coldest nights of my life. It was worth it though.:D

Funny how I can remember that far back but I struggle to remember what I did 5 minutes ago.:p:)

Indeed mate - memory - yes. You can remember your first day at school but not what you had for lunch. This thread has been great for me, in terms of resuscitating memories of gigs I've been to but forgotten. For instance - Karl Wallinger fronting World Party at the Garage in Glasgow, just after he left the Waterboys. Might it be the Woodstock principle? If you can remember you weren't really there. I

I had chicken curry on my first day at secondary school.

Favourite bands? I have too many. Mainly a classic rock fan, Stones, Hendrix etc. Loved the Madchester stuff of the late 80's, great times, great memories. Favourite gig was probably Janes's Addiction at The Venue in Bristol in 1991. Great set, intimate venue. Their stage was set with lots of iconography it really had a feel of ceremony and theatre. Or maybe I was off my tit?
Primus where the supporting that night and Les Claypool's bass playing really impressed me.

Pink Floyd. I also agree that David Gilmour is God. I also love New Order & Chicane. Oasis & Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds. That's a fair old spread of stuff. They all have one thing in common - it's music that moves me. I'm literally taken somewhere else when listening. Bit of Holst too, sometimes. Apart from modern manufactured cack from a tv programme, i'll listen to anything.

Really hard to pick just one. Metallica and Iron Maiden would certainly be up there. Never heard a song of theirs that I didn't like. Volbeat and Delain get played a lot too. One thing they all have in common... they are all amazing live.
