Favourite Band

I love music in all it's shapes & form. The feelings it invokes, memories or simply the moment my foot starts to tap away.

Simply curious which band you consider your favourite of all time & if you fancy sharing, why....

Mine is Doves. They are/were fantastic musicians. Their timing was perfect. Around just at the right time for me to appreciate their albums. Each one coinciding with the up's and downs of life. Sometimes anthemic - sometimes stirring memories and nostalgia that you get when reflecting on life and all that. Have been consistent and there for the last 16 years.

I still cant believe some of the lyrics that hairy 3 blokes from Manchester came out with. As an example:

Music has been my main passion and the one constant in my life.
The first band that became 'my band' we're the Cocteau Twins.
I remember seeing them for the first time on a Saturday morning music show. I think Gary Crowley presented it? With this track...

Ever since that day music was my thing.

Around the same time The Smiths entered my life and they were life changing. Seriously, they changed my life. If it was for The Smiths I wouldn't have gone to the Smiths Convention and met my first girlfriend. Also at the same convention I heard The Stone Roses for the first time, in particular 'I am the Resurrection'. Everything changed that day.
I have lots of bands I love dearly, including Doves BTW. So it's difficult to single one out.
My favorite band still releasing music is Radiohead. They are simply untouchable.

Love the roses too. I was an indie kid during the late 80's early 90's. Inspiral carpets, James, The Charlatans. Good times. Bucket hats, tie dyed t shirts and flared jeans. Happiest days of my life.
I have to agree....apart from the tie dye shirts. :D
Definitely the best days of my life. I was lucky enough to go to Spike Island, which is up they as one of the best days of my life. It was so much more than a gig for me.

Alot of the heavier modern metalcore bands have taken my liking in recent years. Still like my rock though, like singing bands, lol. Hard to name one.

Crikey. Very difficult to pin only one down as 'favourite'! Today (well, this evening) it's probably Creedence Clearwater Revival. Tomorrow morning it'll be Dr. Feelgood. By lunchtime it'll be.. another favourite. :)

I've a lot of artists I like but honestly if I'm going for favorite then I'd have to go for Ultravox (Midge Ure years rather than John Foxx). Grew up with them (and The Human League) so it's a background track to my teenage years as well.

Rather than an actual band it's easier for me to say Genres because what I like is linked. As a very young boy of around 8 I discovered Rock 'N' Roll via my dad's then music collection. He was a Teddy Boy back in the day:) Once I hit my teens I fell in love with Punk straight away & spent the last few decades with that.I still love both genres including Rockabilly,Blues, big band jazz. These days I just listen to music for walking & shaving & it's usually either Punk or Thrash Metal.I HATE mainstream music lol

I have about... ten favourite band/artists. I grew up listening to Yes, Who and Led Zeppelin, then Clash, Simple Minds and Cure. But as a bass player I'm devoted to Jaco Pastorius. Anyway... My fav band is Rush and my artist is Peter Gabriel ( post Genesis ).

I've never got into JK&TP other than the hits (but there's plenty of time yet!). Interesting connection to the pub rock and early post-punk scenes.
Yeah most definitely. When they became The Pirates they kicked off the whole pub rock scene influencing many bands who would later be involved in the first wave or British punk. They are known as the godfathers of Punk.Quite understandably.Johnny kid & the pirates are one of timeless British rock 'n' roll bands that still sound fresh imo.R.I.P Johnny kid & Mick Green.

I have too many 'favourites' to list, so if I may, I will list three, the #1 spot changes depending on mood or reasoning:

1) Iron Maiden
2) Pink Floyd
3) Rammstein

I've seen both Iron Maiden and Rammstein, and I would have dearly loved to have seen Pink Floyd. Both Maiden and Rammstein put on an INCREDIBLE live show, the likes of which MUST be experienced.
