FAKE Watches

edit: actually, that looks even worse in the sophisticated surroundings of this forum.

Clarkson is a Breitling owner, by the way - I remember him comparing its timekeeping unfavourably with a Casio. Of course they're tool watches (over to PigCat), and how many of us need a tool like the Navitimer or a Bentley?

Re: Replica Watches

Yup, it's a fake. But imho so are "real" so-called Swiss watches - they are a con, too. That doesn't justify what I've done but I hope it helps explain it by providing context and motive.

Really I ought to have gone for a PRS-14 which is a high quality homage to the Seamaster 300. But I barely had the £100 for the fake, never mind the £400 or whatever Eddie is asking. (And, yes, I know it's a great watch and worth every penny.)

When sellers pass off fakes as gens there's a problem, but this is just a good looking, seemingly well-made watch that is keeping great time and looks like a 1960's Omega. I agree that fakes are a Bad Thing. And by extension I have done a Bad Thing. But nobody's got hurt, nor are they going to. Very poor ethical reasoning, I know. But there you go.

BTW, Omega sued Eddie Platts over his use of the name "Broadarrow" (the stylised "arrow" sign that denotes HM Govt. property, technically called a pheon). It's been in use since Tudor times (longbows from the Mary Rose wreck were marked thus) but for some reason Omega's legal bullyboys threatened in the strongest terms and with more money than anyone could ever hope to match, so Eddie decided to "cease and desist forthwith" without having his case heard or any judicial ruling. That sucks. For that reason alone I wouldn't buy an new Omega.

Again, it doesn't justify what I did (two wrongs don't make a right) but I makes me feel a bit less bad. Anyway, as the 300 is an old model and long-out-of-production so it's not as if Omega is missing out on any business. If someone re-issues a vintage watch it's not a fake in the same way that copying a new or current one would be.

You say Tool I say Cock. Potah-toe - Potay-toe ;)

i am not doubting the general integrity and accuracy of the movement in Breitling watches. What I am saying is that they have a habit of Blinging up their timepieces to such a chav-tastic level (Mmm...Diamondworks  - I have the Chronolog 08 & Breitling for Bentley books right here next to me), that they have failed to grasp the concept of less is more and latched on to the less praiseworthy style over substance :|

Re: Replica Watches

Watches are not my thing i'm afraid, as you will see from my current time piece, a £20.00 Lorus   , but i have changed the Rubber Strap to a grey and black Nato Style one and it has kept perfect time for the last few years. my mate Tony received a Breitling watch as a reward a couple of years ago for hitting his targets (he works for a huge Computer Company) , but it does nothing for me :? too big and too much detail  :

Re: Replica Watches

I don´t like to much bling either. Lmk what you think of my watch, I went for something classic, with not to much bling (I think):

How much you ask? If you need to ask............ ;)

Yes, those Breitlings are nice too, but I feel they wouldn´t go so well with my skirts, errhh, shirts I mean.

Re: Replica Watches

that'll be a tacky-meter

I'd rather wear a fake Omega than a real Breitling.

I hope Dermot's not pissed off that I've devalued his gen Swiss watches by adding to the pool of simulacra* - after all, in these savvy (if not downright cynical) days people increasingly assume a gen is a fake rather than the other way round.

Surely all seriously finely calibrated timings are done digitally nowadays, not by mechanical cogs and springs? I certainly hope so!

As for me, I need to know the time to +/- 30 secs or so ("Wedding at 2.28:02 SHARP!" is not a phrase I've ever used) and I suspect most of us are the same.

A fake watch is a bit of a guilty pleasure, I know. As is WIS-baiting.

Takes me back to my own wedding day. It had to run perfectly on time as in our unit the guards had rather short lunch breaks and most of the congregation had strict rules on medication. Neither of us can remember much of the ceremony but we have the documentation, and that's a comfort.

Sorry, you can carry on discussing watches now.

Was it Rev-O who performed your ceremony PC?, if so I would check the documentation.....and your watch.

Doubt it Audio. The vicar was female, though I do have a few hazy memories. She said she was due to have a sex-change and had become very interested in finding the perfect shave. She wreaked of Tabac and had to leave quickly to go fishing, but not before trying to flog me her grandfather's prized vintage razor that had Boots written on the handle. :?

HEY.......Say what??!!!!

Ah, yes. The reading was Rev 1:8 "I am the Alpha and the [fake] Omega".

It was a kosher wedding. Well, it looked kosher. Psst wanna buy a watch?

And my grandfather's nickname was "Boots". Plastic? Nah, mate ivory.

Whether you choose to support an illegal industry is entirely your decision Ollie. ;)

I just wonder if those who feel that they would be happy to buy illegal fake watches would be as happy to buy illegal fake shaving gear. :?:
