Executive Shaving Prices

The ES site gives quite accurate ideas for everything they sell, I think. Not all prices are more than other sites. What IS adrift though is the shipping cost. You have to spend more than some other retailers to get free postage, and then it is sent 2nd class.

They don't have a shop
They do, they are located at Museum Business Park if you're in Glasgow.

I agree with other, while I love to support local shops and small businesses, they also need to respect the customers and not take the piss. Would I rather pay extra £2 for great service rather than pay Amazon? Sure thing, but in some cases as others pointed out, they charge much more than "couple of quid" (saying that, you can probably apply that logic to most of the small businesses that operate online). I really hate high shipping fees too, I guess after years of free shipping from Shave Lounge it is hard to get use to paying for postage, so because I can always pop in to ES it works out cheaper anyway.

Shave Lounge was my favourite shop, they had everything I liked (apart from Goodfellas, but I only discovered that brand after they shut) so I was used to ordering all my shaving stuff from the same place. Now I just got into a habit of checking few different websites for prices and ordering from whatever works out cheapest. Pain in the arse, but what else can you do. Bring the SL back!

I find some stuff at ES well priced but other stuff is just bonkers. Here's a couple of examples:

Super ShaveX blades - £16.80 at Connaught or £60 at ES:

Proraso Red 400ml aftershave - £15-17 on the bay or £33 at ES:
I rarely even bothering to look at ES nowadays 'cos most of the stuff I want I can find much cheaper elsewhere...even after TSR 10% discount!

you are 100% wrong they don't have a shop. I know this as a matter of fact as iv been ( twice ). The have a warehouse where Brian will speak to you but no shop for you to browse. its basically an online business. don't get me wrong when you go Brian is a wonderful guy & very knowledgable but no shop in any state or form. The Gentlemans Groom room in Dundee on the other hand is 100% shop

It amuses me how many people praise ES customer service. I was using a proper brush and soap with cartridges and had bought some bits from them.
When I decided to move away from carts I spoke to Brian who convinced me to try a one blade. I bought one but wasn't happy. First complaint - was told I needed to use it for at least ten shaves. Still not happy and having bought a cheap WS DE from a supermarket - which was better - I was then told I'd had it more than 14 days - so tough.
I'm now enjoying proper shaving despite ES's best efforts!

I had a similarly poor experience. I was sent the wrong item which I had to pay to return out of my own pocket and they wouldn't send out the correct item until they had received it back. Vowed never to shop there again, complete p*sstakers.

Well, they don't have a classic shop, no. My bad. It's a warehouse and it's open to public. You can go in, pick up your order or have a look. So my point was, that it still often works out cheaper to get stuff from them and pick it up, rather than paying a postage from somewhere else. If you know what you're going for, then this is no different than going to a shop.

your wrong mate. yes they have a warehouse but there's nothing on display, nothing for you to touch & feel, nothing to see or nothing on any shelf. you can't buy anything you see on a shelf because there aint one. Nothing. you can't browse anything.
if for instance you fancy something then yes they will go get it for you but its as far from a shop as a shop can be.
ALSO with all due respect in your words you have never been,
Another one of your points is its in an industrial estate so who can go here ?
anyone with a car I would presume and for most of the country postage at £4.95 would be a hell of a lot cheaper than paying fuel money

Okay mate, you entitled to your opinion, I'm gonna keep using Executive Shaving as my local "shop". Not gonna argue with you over things like that online. Have a nice day!
i'll also keep keep using them i like them very much. and genuinely i'm not arguing i'm only saying they don't have a shop unfortunately, or perhaps i should say thankfully they don't have a shop as i'd probably be skint

They probably closed when everyone else went to the mega store, same thing with small grocers and butchers when Asda and Tesco came along, people want more choice at less cost...and that's what the big stores offer

When only the big places are left, they realize that their profits can be increased by offering less selection. They don't lose customers because there is nowhere else to go.

I agree, I know companies have to make money and they have nice stuff but way overpriced generally

I read this thread and I would like to reply to some points.
  • The price differences between Connaught Shaving and The Executive Shaving Company.
Connaught is a retail and trade supplier, selling brands such as Feather, Connaught are buying at a trade price from Feather, they then sell Feather products to us with a mark-up hence the price difference. This also applies to some other products that are supplied by Connaught.
Proraso, we buy from a well-known trade supplier and add a standard trade mark up. Someone noted that a Proraso aftershave we supply at £33 is available on eBay at £17. That may be the case, there is a grey market where eBay sellers can buy brands such as Proraso and Gillette from firms who are now no longer trading or from liquidators. These firms usually have limited stock and will quickly move onto whatever else they can source to sell off at way below the suggested retail prices.
  • Boycie83 – thank you, you spotted a pricing mistake on Super Shave X blades, they were priced at £60.00, we have now corrected that and changed the price to £20.00, our mistake, now fixed.
  • Although we are an online company, we welcome drop in shoppers who can pay by card or cash.
  • Mike Smart – you can filter any product range or brand by price – low or high and even by fragrance where applicable. We do promote our own brand above others, we are 100% confident that they are at least the match of any other brand and they are competitively priced. It makes complete business sense to promote our brand in favour of a competitor brand.
  • AJC347 – you say we are 'relatively competitive'. In fact, our prices for Varesino, Pocket Scents, Proraso, Trumper, Truefitt, Extro, Fitjar, Castle Forbes, Muhle, Merkur, Parker and more are exactly at the ‘suggested retail price' the brand requests.
  • Roy – you mention our high shipping costs, UK shipping is £3.99 for a track and trace service no matter how many items you buy and no matter how heavy the package is. Single, small items such as blades are cheaper. UPS and DHL next day delivery is £6.99.
In 2019 we subsidised UK shipping by £5k, international shipping by £4k.
  • Our prices on Amazon and eBay are higher than on our own website as these sellers demand a heavy commission on every sale. We never sell cheaply on Amazon or eBay.
We know our business well and for us to remain in business we need to make a profit, people need to understand that. Our profits are healthy but not excessive. By contrast, we were approached in 2018 by a leading UK wide retailer who wanted to stock our shaving creams and balms, the buyer told me she needed a 300% mark-up, so we would sell to her at say £8.00 and they would sell the same item at £24.00. We don't make 300% or anything like it on any item we sell.
The Executive Shaving Company has around 1,900 SKUs, by far the widest range of any independent seller in Europe, we bring our customers top notch products from India, USA, Spain, Italy, Norway, Ireland, Germany, France, Belgium and more, we have a 5 star rating on Trust Pilot and we genuinely strive to exceed customer expectations.
From time to time, we have sales where real bargains can be had, we also do occasional competitions, a £60 Alpha Shaving Brush was won by a customer only last week.
Members of TSR can claim a 10% discount at checkout.
The Executive Shaving Company has six full time staff and all are paid in excess of The Living Wage, we also pay employee pensions and sick pay over and above the minimum government rates, without profits we couldn't do all that.
I hope this clarifies matters, if anyone wants to get in touch, please do so: T: 0141 880 3040 or brian@executive-shaving.co.uk you will get a reply.

Whilst some retailers maybe purchasing Proraso on the "grey market" surly not all established online retailers are; no other online retailer that I have used is charging anything near £33 for Proraso aftershave. You also assert that other retailers maybe buying Gillette blades on the grey market; again compare your prices with other well established online retailers and the difference in price is considerable. Even with non-Gillette blades, as an example, Executive Shaving charge over double the price for Persona Platinum DE blades than the English Shaving Company or Gifts & Care to name just two. If you compare the price Executive Shaving charge for Geo F Trumper's Lime Skin Food - £23, compared to £15 from the English Shaving Company or Gift & Care, that is a not an insignificant difference. High prices are also evident on many other products Executive Shaving sell. Great though that Executive Shaving have "corrected" the price on Shave X blades and are no longer charging customers £60 for 100 blades.
