To concur, my heavy handles in this style are 40g whereas the lightweight are 16g. By way of comparison, the more common British chain link handle is 38g.

I'm not absolutely sure when this handle came out but it was featured on the Deluxe model which I have adverts from the launch in 1949. There are some flip open cases that also came with the razor on this handle which I put in the same era ... late 1940s.

The instruction leaflet that came inside the case describes it as "The New Improved Ever-Ready Razor" and I know that the guy who ran the chemist I got it from first started trading in the 1950's, so that ties in quite nicely with your 1949 launch date..

I believe these razors came in this kind of case as the 'New Improved'. It's likely that the light handled versions also came in these cases but towards the end of production.

Once into the 1950s, the 'Peerless' model gained a round handle and came in the same cases but with clear lids:

Yep! They came in all sorts of colours ... that brown and a mottled green seem to be the nicer ones, there's also green, red, blue, black and white/cream.
