Does an £80 Brush Really Make a Difference?

You're too new to this game, son. As an owner of a number of synths ranging from 10 quid to over 100 - there's ZERO difference in terms of the knot's properties. Only in craftsmanship/materials. The fact that you've tried shitty ones doesn't prove anything - you absolutely CAN get a brilliant synth brush for a tenner.

All my Yaqis were around a tenner, and the Rainbow one in particular is a great brush at any price.

Today I used my cheapest brush a 4 Euro today, a Omega 10075 (23mm/48mm) boar, it was stiff and scrubby before but it's broken in a bit it's got very soft tips but still has a huge amount of backbone; an absolute delight to use, really efficient for how much soap it uses as well. The handle isn't the best but I'm not one to be bothered by a handle.

Never said that you couldn't have a brilliant brush for a tenner?
Just saying in the "few" synth brushes i've tried - there definitely is a noticeable difference.
YMMV of course, and i wish you a happy evening :)

I agree with your sentiment concerning brushes, but that was a rude and unnecessary singling out of an individual and his opinion. We all offer our opinions here, based on our experience and preferences, and we should respect the opinions of others.

Don't turn this into another virtue-signaling B&B. This place had been known for harsh humour long before you joined - and that's the beauty of it.

Really interesting discussion. What is the brush had a unique feature, like a tool-less removable knot? That would accept almost any replacement knot you wanted in 2 minutes? Would that be worth more than 80?

This is something I have been grappling with. I want to make a brush, but essentially manufacturing, packaging, shipping, and paying taxes and operating costs as a small brand instantly put things north of 100gbp... So this is a hot topic for me.

Sometimes it is just nice to have nice things, you can pick up a gold dollar razor for under £10, hone it and it will shave you, engles, c-mon and puma etc shave you too but are just so much nicer to use, I have plenty vintage razors and all shave well, but likely other people would scrap them..I love them, just the age and story behind them intrigues me.

This is a really great sentiment. Sometimes its hard to put a finger on why something is 'valuable' and its not always the outright cost.

This one. A few chaps on this forum have the same brush and like it a lot.

Good balance of density, size and the right height of glue bump so it isn't really floppy and has enough backbone to work well with creams and soaps.

My most used synth brush by quite some margin.
Have the same one. Nice one

I've had expensive synthetic brushes and for me the best synthetic brushes I've got are Yaqi. And these are a third of the price of my expensive synthetic brush and they vastly outperform it even though they are a third of the price.

In my opinion an expensive brush you are paying for:

1: The name.
2: A fancy handle.

Is that not the case for most things... tho I can see the difference in a lot of items, dubl duck v gold dollar, certain soaps are far better than others etc etc.
