Did I Break my Brush

I've just started having this issue with my Wilkinson Sword brushIMG_20200424_113437.jpg
I used to loose a maximum of 2-3 hairs per use, now when I use it it looks like I've been shaving the brush afterwards. The only thing I'm doing differently is shaving less while we're stuck at home

Are you soaking it for long enough? You may want to consider a synth. No need for soaking, negligible (if any) bristle loss; and predictably good performance across the soap spectrum.

I find my boars to be incredibly erratic for losing bristles; if I use a boar brush which I haven't used for a bit of time and even if it has been soaked adequately it will lose a few bristles but oddly enough if I use it consecutively in the days afterwards it will be fine.

I'm in agreement with Scotshave though, a synth will never have any issues with shedding and will perform consistently and IMO for around a tenner or so a Yaqi Brush will go an incredibly long way for performance and value.

I thought wiki brushes were plastic ie synthetic, I've had one for years close on 10 and just give it a quick swish in the basin before use. Are they badger ?
And it only loses a hair now and again, maybe every 4 or 5 uses.

I think if you are not gonna use a boar for a long while you have to make sure that the brush is clean of all residual soap. Meaning wash it with shampoo before long term storage. I am inclined to believe that soap exposure and dehydration are damaging the bristles. Mind you this is all hypothetical, but better be cautious..

I would have thought moisture would be more damaging than dehydration, leading to rot at the base of the knot.

If you leave it soaking wet all the time perhaps. As you know boar bristles are hollow. If you aren't rinsing well some of the soap gets inside the hair and then dries and damages over time...

Mind you this only holds true if you don't properly soak your brush ensuring the bristles have soaked all the water they can...
I have few boars and aside from the initial bristle loss, they haven't shed a single hair. It is possible that I just got lucky too...

How long do you soak your boars before use and in what kind of what kind of temperature? All my boars shed constantly!

I soak my omega boar for as long as a shower takes about 10 min or so, never knew wilki was boar so a quick swirl in basin.
Water hot enough to keep hand in without feeling too hot and uncomfortable.

Pretty much what I do as well. I use warm water. Too hot and you are risking softening the glue that holds the bristles together.
I do rinse my brushes really well in the shower after each use with cold water..

I've started washing it thoroughly after each use and it seems to be back to where it was with bristle loss. I'm still only shaving 1-3 times a week, mostly to avoid irritation that might encourage me to touch my face when I'm at work.

What brush are you using? I have been using that Jade Omega since November and the couple of hair it lost happened during the first few shaves. I haven't seen a hair fall out since then...
