Croatian Istria

Hopefully in late August or early September the missus and I will be heading to Croatian Istria. We have never been, I won the battle to not going to Hvar. We would fly to Rijeka, and stay in either Pula, Porec or Rovinj. I believe there is things to do in Rijeka, Opatija, and Venice by hydrofoil/catamaran.

Has anyone have any experiences?

I spent a lot of time in Croatia in the early 90's when I was in the Merchant Navy during the civil war, it's a beautiful country and food a drink were very reasonable in the 90's. I was mainly in Split and Dubrovnik which is more to the South.
I hope you have a great time, I would imagine things have changed massively, I'll be interested to hear how you got on when you return.

I haven't but I hope you and your missus have a wonderful time, check out some local soaps! :) P.

I went with the Mrs just before it all kicked off. We stayed in the north near the border, Umag, near Porec.
I was a beautiful place, both the sea fronts and inland, it was quite unstable though at the time, although, we were looked after on the whole. We visited Venice, firstly by boat, it was so rough the captain turned back, I was OK as I've fished the North sea since a child in small boats but the decks were awash with breakfast. Anyway we jumped on some luxury coaches a few days later and after a wonderful but scary drive we arrived in Venice.
Highlight of the Holiday.
I am also thinking it may have changed a bit culturally, saying that beautiful place, wonderful food and nice friendly people - before it kicked off.

My fencing protoge is Croatian and she's always said Pula, whenever I asked where would be good to go. I would have been in Porec for the fencing Veterans World Championships, but some global pandemic happened ... another time. I hope you go and hope you enjoy it. Don't forget, ironically, there probably crap loads more Roman stuff to see in Croatia than across the sea in Italy.
