Cream, Soap and Croap Life Expectancy

Whilst eyeballing my collection from the porcelain throne earlier, I began to wonder if I needed to strategically work through my soaps/creams in a specific order.

Have any of you had any instances of soaps, creams or croaps going foul? I imagine the soaps will be fine but is it unreasonable to expect an open croap or cream to last ~5 years?

I reported a croap going rancid a few months ago. The subsequent discussion suggested that it is essential not to allow the croap to be stored too wet.

I had kept mine for about nine-months in quite a warm (bathroom) environment .

So... imho it isn't reasonable to expect a croap to last terribly long.

I've had a few hard soaps which have been used in fits and starts over several years, and they didn't seem to take any harm. However, I've had at least one softer soap which went "grainy" and acquired a new and unattractive scent when left for a couple of months, so it got binned.

I started down the rabbit hole of DE shaving just over 5 years ago now and none of the creams or croaps I've bought since then have gone off. I have had Body Shop shaving cream go off years and years ago (long before the maca root stuff) when I bought some little sample ones for travel but they must have been the best part of 10 years old?
