Cold water shaving?

Its simple physics heat makes metal expand including the edge of the blade
and the cold water seems to tighten your skin its cold water for me to
mate

The average home water heater is set at approx. 120F (48.89C). 7.2 x 10-6 is the expansion coefficient for steel. So, from 70F to 120F is a change of 50 degrees. 50 X 0.0000072 = 0.00036.

Even the horniest of widow women could not ascertain an expansion of 0.00036. Myth busted.

Sorry that all went over my head @Bogeyman
Is that saying hot water dulls the blades more than cold?
All I know things expand with heat (most things)
that thing I said about simple physics is well....
really I know S--T about it
was I on the right track ???

What he's saying, and he's right, is that heat does make steel expand; however we're talking about such an infinitesimally tiny amount that it's going to make sod-all difference to your shave or the longevity of the blade.

You may perceive other benefits from shaving in cold water but it's not going to make your blades last longer any more than putting them under a pyramid will. It's as bonkers as the idea of flipping a blade "to use both edges".

When you can buy 100 Astra blades for $15 including delivery
how long the blade lasts really don't matter
And ya that blade flipping is as crazy as so called hand stroping :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
I saw a thread on it what a laugh mate
( I thought hand stroping was something you did in private):sneaky:

Excuse me Mr Pain in Ass ;), I've been flipping my blade for every third shave for each rotation for nearly two years, believe me, it does makes a huge difference and the blade does last longer. YMMV depending on your stubble, shaving technique and your lather slickness. It does makes a huge difference, you just need to open your own eyes to see the differences.

I will just peer out of the shell I have gone back into to
say I had not heard that much about blade flipping and as I had only recently head about it
it sounded a bit funny:censored:
off cause I had seen the numbers on some blades
but never put it into practice
well the suns getting a bit hot I'm going back in(y)

In my experience it doesn't. And in my early DE-shaving days I've done all sorts of tinfoil-hat shi*t there is. Conclusion has been - keep it simple. And on top of that - I've never actually felt a need to extend the longevity of the blades, given their price. I spend waaaaay more on coffee alone.

Hiya,

The idea of using a cold towel for a 1-2 minute prep has always seemed ridiculous to me. Hah, freezing my ass off while thinking of petting bunnies during that time (for relaxation purposes of course) seems kinda self defeating (the hoping my face stop being cold soon).

Certainly no offense meant towards those crazy bastards who prefer cold water shaving,

Martin

If you hold your kitchen knives by the tip instead of the handle every other time you cook, you use the other side of the blade and don't need to sharpen them as often. ;)
