Coarse beard

Hi I had a shave last night with a 3 day growth and it was horrible, my beard is so tough that the razor doesn't just glide through the beard there is alot of resistance, the first pass was not as bad but second and third was really bad I had to stop shaving and couldn't get that close because as I was going against the grain it was just to painful and felt like the hair weren't cutting because it was so tough. IV heard of the expression like a hot knife through butter when shaving but for me it's like a cold knife through a brick.. any advice?

Don't shave against the grain....

It's all about gradual reduction of the beard pass by pass, you're not using a combine harvester to mow down a corn field in one go. Try two passes with the grain and then two across the grain the passes and leave it at that.

Another thing you could do, judging by your posts, is try using the same setup for month to remove any variables; your technique will improve as well using the same set up for a while.

Thanks for your reply, I don't think the problem is going against the grain my problem is my beard is to tough even the with the grain it's to comftable I really need to find a way to soften my beard hair, what about a hot towel ? I currently use Gillette nacet or Wizamet blades

Have you tried altering the cutting angle of your razor e.g towards the cap or towards the bar to see if that makes a difference?
Another option is to try a slant bar such as a Merkur 37C/39C, but as mentioned by wooky114 it's best to try and not change too many things at once.

No haven't tried changing the cutting angel I just thought you need a 30 degree angle. Never tried a slant either don't like the look of them unfortunately. I'm always changing things don't like using the same products all the time I get bored

Try prep, lather and shave in cold water. Many do. And stick with the same kit until you get it right. You're all over the place right now and changing kit won't help you.
