Just been watching this most helpful tutorial on cleaning the lens and sensor on my Canon DSLR

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrdkFXsr5Us

But there is no mention if the detergent is original Canon or other branded... :icon_razz:

To be honest, I find this method crap.

I use one of these and find it far more effective -> http://www.halfords.ie/motoring/cleaning-products/pressure-washers-hoses/karcher-k4-premium-eco-home-pressure-washer

I think he forgot to mention that you need a blowtorch to dry it off afterwards. More alarmingly I once read on the Schneider website that saliva makes a good lens cleaner. I think they were being serious.

You know what I really can imagine some youngster doing this, If you want to clean it get a good quality sensor wipe a lens cloth and blower when I owned a DSLR I was never one to pop a lens on and off that often and I can never remember having a problem to be honest.

Hahaha Kratcher! LOL the video instructions, in the comments the poster recommends to do this every couple of weeks. LOL

Is there a single product for the two? If there is I would forget it. The reason being, lens coatings are very soft and different to the red filter coatings on sensors.

For lenses I would use a purpose made lens cleaner that contains Isopropanol, Distilled Water, Alcohol Ethoxylate and Isothiazolinones. These types of cleaners are very gentle to all lens coatings and evaporate leaving very little to no smears. Use a dust blower to remove dust particles first.

For digital sensors again I would use a purpose made cleaner and one that is 100% Methanol AR but do make sure it is AR, this being the purest Analytical grade methanol available. Impurities in lower grades will leave trace smears. Also don't use cheap Chinesse swabs, these will damage your sensor as they are manafactured to clean printer heads and are slightly abrasive.

There is a company who makes both products here. http://www.actina.co.uk/

Good luck! :D
