Chinese Razor Month

Glad you've enjoyed it and some excellent counterpoints to the MIC argument there.

I'm not sure what my counterpoints are tbh!

I'm not too bothered whether things are clones or not, and even though I own quite a few MIC razors the only one I use on a regular basis is the Yaqi DOC.

Personally though, I'd always recommend spending a bit more if needed be and getting the full fat version if possible eg the Merkur Futur opposed to the Mingshi one if you the funds to do so, or just the DE89 head on it's own.

If you have the energy to do another themed month of razor shaves that'd be great be it ones of another theme be it German/Vintage/USA razors or so one.

Also forgot, it was good to read about menthol soaps as well!

Sorry, my post there made no sense reading it back. In my mind it meant you added some quality info and countered some of the potential negatives I raised towards the end.

Thanks for the info Brian, your shaving soap has some of the best post shave feel I've come across (for my skin, a YMMV issue if ever)so I'm sure the splash will address the post shave feel equally well.
I'll second that Donnie , @Boycie83 introduced me to @BrianH 's soaps and they have become a firm favourite.

I bought the fourth one on the right Ming Shi 2000S and I found, it has alignment issues. It's very difficult to load a blade, without having one side more aggressive or mild. So I stopped using it.

Other than that quite impressive, how they have been able to create a copy of the Merkur Futur. Do you also find that it has alignment issues and yes, how to work around it? It seems some people are able, to work around it.

My 2000S has good alignment but some don't survive the journey from China. Others may just become a little loose and they can be reset by lifting the bottom plate and unscrewing the razor until it comes apart. When screwing it back together, sometimes the alignment is reset correctly.

I took mine apart, cleaned out the gunk, put it back together and it the blade gap on both sides is now equal! I even measured it with my calipers and it was 1.5mm on both sides on it's lowest setting.

Cheers Boyce & Wookie!

I'll give the razor a go tomorrow.

Today I decided to use the Ming Shi 2000S today and I guess, the alignment issue is fixed after taking it apart and cleaning it. Combined with a Astra SP Blade it gave me quite a good shave, better then when I first started using this safety razor.

I started shaving with the first setting, but after the first pass I decided to put it on the second setting. Which I believe might be the best setting, because higher would just make the razor more aggressive.

To be honest: adjustable safety razors are to my personal opinion a gimmick, no one really needs these in reality I believe. They can even be quite dangerous, as the blade gap on the highest setting is really big.

So in the end I would probably grab one of my non-adjustable razors again: the one with the handle, I had made in Pakistan from Stainless steel. These I always use with a Edwin Jagger DE89 head.

But from the Chinese razors I own, the one which carries the Gillette brand name is still the best. I took a look at these Yaqi razor's as well, but I'm finding € 14 quite a lot for a Chinese made safety razor. Also considering its brass and not stainless steel, if it was stainless steel I might buy it directly.

I used mine as well today and I didn't have the most enjoyable shave with it, I forgot how enormous the razor head is though!
