Chelsea Leather Food ok for strops?

I bought an lovely unused Invisible Edge strop on eBay that needs a bit of breaking in. It feels very hard - quite thick and has a flax back bonded to it - and a smooth shiny surface with little drag on the blade. A bit of Dovo strop paste helped with that but it was the last of one of those tiny little tubes. Any reason I can't use a bit of Chelsea Leather Food to soften it up or should I buy a proper strop paste?

Anyone else used one of these Invisible Edge strops? How long did it take to break in?

TIA

Mark

Thats a Dubbin it Appears...I Wouldn't Personally Use a Dubbin on a Strop....Up to You....Just Use what You have been Using....Some Strops Dont Soften So Ta Speak....Some are Soft & Some are Stiffer or Harder Leather....

I had to google it to see what it was, and no i wouldn't use it, personally i'd avoid anything that contains waxes. The usual answer is to use neets foot oil, often used for horse saddles etc. however i usually use what ever oil is to hand, the lighter the better, almond oil or grape seed oil are both fairly light and available from most supermarkets.
