Can you name anything that youngsters of today won't know?

90s fashion is in vogue, so that's something
That's assuming 90s is old. I think there was a break between the 80s and the 90s (and later decades) at many levels. That was when the first non-technical people went online, and the world both got smaller and went faster. It also was a time of major political and cultural changes.

The 80s are much more similar to the 70s than to the 90s, in my opinion.

They all pay subs which vary from group to group. Sometimes these are subsidised, for example where a school hall is used. We have our own hall and charge £32 a term, this covers the running costs of the hall, membership fees and the costs of badge work. Camping costs are separate but they are offset sometimes with fund raising. We get money through local charitable groups, Masons, Roundtable, Rotary Club etc which helps with equipment costs.

Some of my best childhood memories are from my time as a Scout, one year I think I spent damn near as many nights camping as I did at home. Sadly my uniform shirt got lost in a house move, but I still have my Chief Scout's Award certificate. :)

Another ex-Scout here (do you ever truly leave the organisation?). Effectively I was in the scouting movement from the age of 8 all the way to about 15 years ago when I finally had to call it a day from being a leader due to my working away as a ship's Captain and family life.

A wonderful organisation which I owe so much to for helping to define where I am now.

Which brings me on to another side of life which many of the youngsters of today are unaware of, working away at sea and the merchant navy. I became an apprentice officer at 16 and the merchant navy has seen me all the way through life ever since. It is still a career looking for the future generation and very few come forward.

They don't seem to know that much, to be honest. They do seem to be offended by everything though. I just read that they are watching Only fools & horses on Netflix & are offended by it, saying it's "racist." I'd make the little snowflakes watch Till death us do part & Love thy neighbour. A generation of fucking pussies.

I must be out of touch, I bought my Mrs the Only Fools and Horses box set a couple of Christmases ago and we re-watched them all, I don't remember being struck by it being racist. That said, these days everything is something-ist.

I breezed past an article today whereby there was a call for Italians to change their word for 'black' because it was deemed racist. This was sparked, apparently, by a 'missing dog' advert, for a black dog in Italy. Ridiculous stuff.

Unfortunately, I can't find said article right now. If I stumble across it again I'll be sure to share.

It was a Mexican whose dog was called Negro - Spanish for black. Imagine the shit that would go down if these snowflake fuckwits ever found out the name of Douglas Bader's dog.

That's the one - as I said I skimmed over it with a disparaged sigh. Sometimes this whole 'racism' thing does get out of hand.

That being said, sometimes it really doesn't.

It was Guy Gibson from the Dambusters, but a valid point nonetheless. There have been occasions when the film's been shown and Nigger's name has been edited.

Snopes: Modern products still sometimes bear labels and descriptions that include a color named for a racial pejorative.

Took my mum years to stop calling a certain shade of wool 'Nigger Brown'.
Most uses of the word nigger get changed these days, Ten Little Niggers by Agatha Christie hasn't been around for a while for example.
Evolution is a wonderful thing, within what 40 years? it went from a word people who weren't consciously racist would casually use to a term so offensive that it's legitimate use (in another language entirely) offends 'snowflakes'.

Gives me a mild smile ( I find in my dotage I'm easily amused ) when I recall that ' Ten Little Nigger Boys ' was renamed as ' Ten Little Indians '. How long, I wonder, before further renaming is required. Perhaps, ' Ten Obese and Prejudiced Elderly Affluent White Sexist Males ' would be acceptable in these enlightened times.

I believe it has been renamed "And then there were none" in the US.
Although in French, the original title (translated) is still used, a proposition has been made recently to rephrase/reformulate all the collocations using the "N" word; it's used to designate "ghostwriter" for instance.
