Far as I recall smoking on UK flights in the late 1980s/ early 90 s was confined to the rear of the passenger cabin. Used to be a fairly constant trek of people trudging to the rear for a cigarette if they hadn't managed to get a seat in the last 6 or 8 rows.

Oh yes, I remember smoking on a plane.... 1981.
Smoking in the cinema could be annoying to some people.
I'm glad that I gave it up 20 years ago.

True, but no one forced you to go into a pub where customers smoked. There must have been a pub run by Christian Scientists, or the Mormons, you could have frequented.
