Bow Ties. Yes or No?

Haven't worn one since I left Oxford. I still remember with horror the memory of a morning spent trying desperately to put on sub fusc before matriculation. That said, after the initial tears, tying one became second nature after a while.

t'other question is wing collar or regular collar with a bow tie? I'm a regular collar fellow, evening suit, too.

Shirt: Normal collar, waffle front, black studs and cufflinks
Suit: Shawl collar, trousers with braces.
Socks: Black silk
Shoes: Patent leather
Fragrance: Jovoy - Les Jeux sont Faits

Simple elegance (at least it would elegant on someone other than me!)

My father in law goes for white tux, red pre-tied bow tie and wing collar. Not my preference.

Cheers

Cummerbund. Colour dependent on whether event is civvy 'black tie' or 'mess dress'.

Just don't do it too perfect, or folks will think it's a pre-made. First few times, untie when there's an audience, thereafter don't make a big deal ... both look cool :D
The biggest problem is getting it tight enough - that's why you need the adjuster at the side/back after the tie is complete.

I don't like things too tight around my neck. I find that I get the bow pretty tight by pulling the double ends, holding the knot and gently pulling the single ends then pulling the double ends again. I then pull on both sides of the neck part to really tighten the knot and allow it to sit more losely on my neck..

Bit of a fan too. I only own about six or seven, and only get to wear one maybe half a dozen times a year, but I always wear them if I'm invited to formal events like weddings. Have to be self-tie, otherwise you can end up looking like a kid at the school dance. As others have said, tying them is easy once you have the knack. It is basically the same knot as you tie your shoelaces with, and if you want to learn how to do it, look on YouTube - there are about a million videos (some good, some bad) showing exactly how it is done.

I like bow ties. Self tie only though. Clip ons and pre-tied are for the people who don't have time for a proper traditional shave either.

Edit: I'm actually wearing one in my avatar picture.

I wore one (black with small white polka dots) at my first wedding, along with a black leather suit. Don't ask, it was the 80's ;) Nothing against bow ties, but I haven't worn one since. Maybe I should look into them again...
