Boots...revival or recession

I popped into my local Boots this morning to pick something up, looked down the shave aisle expecting little. Scanned the shelves what do I see
three near empty racks of DE blades (Wilks & IP's) last time I looked there was only one, and a rack containing just one WS plastic razor and a fair stock of there own branded items (originally there were none).

They could have been nicked or held behinf the counter but I am hopeful.

I also had a look at the KOS Azur that was being offered at half price, best thing you could do with that is rip it's head off and use it as a catapult.

was home for a funeral on monday and popped into Boots to take advantage of the old 3 for 2 offer.
got the soap dish, Freshwood a\s and balm

Revival maybe? I noticed that another local chemist, Lloyds, have put the Wilkinson Classic razor and Wilkinson DE blades back on the shelves.

Boots used to do a nice Lime after shave but all they seem to have now any time I look is the Freshwood. They have maybe discontinued it? It absolutely screamed LIME!!!!!

How many years ago since you saw that? I remember the Freshwood and Cool Cologne from many years ago but not the lime. I got a huge tin of Freshwood foam and I think it lasted for my entire second year at university.

I noticed Tabac Deoderant spray and aftershave was in a boots i went to today and they had a version of own brand razor blades and razor. I dont remember seeing boots own DE's before. Maybe its a sign of things to come.
Though a pharmacy down the road which has a good stock of shaving gear was doing tabac in pot for £11.25 and having a sale on lots of the tabac range which were cheaper than boots offers but seeing a major upping their stock suggests something is changing .... maybe its just us buying all their gear

off topic P.s ... a hairdressers just down the road was stocking sandalwood and sensitive skin TOBS cream in the pot for £6 and tubes brushes, creams and aftershaves from the same ! I have a new tub :D

 Its almost as if shaving gear is becoming available or something !

About 100 years ago
Seriously, it only feels like that, but it was definitely a long time ago. I think maybe late 70s early 80s. Funny you should mention the Cool cologne - I'd forgot about that. Tesco are doing a 'Cool' After Shave at the minute for the princely sum of £1.50, don't think it bears any resemblance though

No Andy...now you are becoming fully at one with the D.E Force so you can now "feel" when there are subtle disturbances in the dark side.

Does that explain why the assistants in the shop were wearing sackcloth hoodies and shouting "OOootini!" quite a lot then Tony :D

Andy Hornby runs Boots. The same Andy Hornby who was in charge of HBOS when it went from the biggest and best to a pile of poo.

................and when Next was Hepworths?

Although I remember Hepworths, I didn't associate it's demise with the appearance of Next.... shopped at neither, Hepworths because it was too "old man" and Next because their idea of "long leg" was 32" (I need 33" absolute minimum, 34" better, 35" best)

Yep, took over a lot of their shops and their manufacturing capacity. I got some cracking suits straight off the line, in 34" leg too, at a plant in Ashington (of all places  ). Similarly a lot of older people still wear top of the range Burberry raincoats etc in Sparta, thanks to the former plant there.

I'm older than I look and I'll be even older tomorrow...
